Immune thrombocytopenia or ITP

Post by Erica P-G »

Has anyone on this forum ever come across this syndrome?

I have a cousin who is scared to death that he is going to die because he can't get his platelet count to stay up and in this last week after his medicine session it only lasted a week where they had been keeping his counts up for at least two weeks.

He had a friend who died last year due to his platelet count getting dangerously low and I believe he had a heart attack or something along those lines. So this has pretty much put the scare into him and because he lives on the East coast and I on the West coast I am having a hard time being his ear and trying to help coax him into a good eating plan and I have asked him to get me his VitD levels ASAP I feel he may have a VDR Receptor issue like myself and he isn't retaining the VitD3 he does get on a daily basis and it isn't performing like it should be. I also got him to start Elemental Magnesium...which if his D isn't working right he won't be absorbing either one very well because of his yucky medication regimen.

Anyway I felt it worth a shot if anyone has seen, experienced or knows of an immune situation such as this one and how it was helped.

Hi Erica,

Low B-12 or B-9 (folate) can also contribute to thrombocytopenia. Alcohol, sugary drinks (and artificial sweeteners), and NSAIDs can also contribute. You're correct of course that inadequate vitamin D can contribute to the problem. Vitamin K might help. I'm not sure if it increases platelet counts, but it's a clotting aid.

Have you read this information?

Thanks Tex,
I just got done looking at that article...to me this falls under a freaked out immune system just like we see and have gone thru with our MC/LC/CC, taking steps to correct it were daunting but necessary!

I'm afraid my cousin being 46 and afraid he wants to listen and do the right thing, but if he has to maintain on medication I don't see how on earth he is going to get to the other side of wellness when his body has probably been talking to him for a few years now but he didn't understand.

He is a smart guy, drafter designer, 6' 6" tall and a big bear of a guy who loves life and pleasing people....I have told him he needs to take care of himself right now and not worry about others or what they think of him, (he is so self conscientious). He has always had an issue with anxiety and go go go syndrome he could never sit still as a child, and sometimes had to rock in a rocking chair when we were young to get his body to wear out so he would sleep. As an adult he takes long walks, and works out in a gym 2-3 times a week and even will work at his job OT just to slow his mind down.....I feel so sorry for people like that, I have felt sorry for him.

Thanks again!
E

His anxiety/hyperactivity symptoms sound a lot like they might be due to a chronic magnesium deficiency. I'm not sure that had anything to do with his thromocytopenia, but over 46 years, it might (due to adverse effects on sleep patterns, etc.).

I agree with this...
I have loaned my magnesium miracle (dr Dean book) to a friend so can not look up items/research that may be relevant

some googling
Dr Sircus that writes good articles about magnesium

Thanks for the support...
I am pushing the magnesium and benefits as much as I possibly can...and once I understand his VitD levels maybe, just maybe I can start a connection of positive things he can notice finally. (yes it will take time due to so much damage)

Yes his hyperactivity is over the top as far as I am concerned, always has been and he hasn't changed all these years....now I feel it is taking its toll on his health and body.

So appreciate the sounding board here at the forum...
Hugs

from the nutrient text book - the following are key nutrients to treat hyperactivity
B1, B6, active B12, zinc, copper, iron, calcium, magnesium

Starting active B6 and B12 and magnesium would be very good starting point

Thanks Gabes,

I appreciate the guidance....my cousin said he would get his D levels checked this coming Monday  I've asked him to do this numerous times I hope he remembers and follows thru this time...geesh.
