Problems with dentist?

Post by Grahm »

I went to the dentist this am for a cleaning. I headed right back to work and almost didn't make it to the bathroom in time
Has this happened to anyone else? I was shocked

hi connie
yes dental procedures can cause issues for many MC'ers

couple of reasons
- the items they use for the cleaning can contain things like gluten, soy,
- cleaning the teeth can trigger some of the bacteria that live around the teeth to flood into our tummies and trigger inflammation

Connie,

Yes, that has happened to a number of members here. To add to what Gabes posted, In your case it's almost certain that your dental hygienist used a cleaning compound that contains gluten. They can order safe (GF) cleaning compounds, but probably no one has mentioned this problem to them before because they didn't connect their reaction with the dental procedure.

Hopefully the reaction will pass quickly.

I can say I have before!

I believe there are times I have flossed my teeth and given myself my own bathroom issue at home of all things! The Brain Gut thing is a real one and I wish it wasn't sometimes.

After feeling ill after a cleaning I called to request gluten free polish. They had it available when I went for my appointment. I have been fine since, so it was definitely the polish. I verify with the hygienist before she begins that the polish is gf.

Very interesting! I went to the dentist today and almost at the end of my cleaning I realized whatever she was using could have gluten in it. I asked her about it when I was done and she looked it up. I was told there was no gluten in it. I'm still at 7 on the Bristol scale, so it's hard to tell, but I am feeling pretty bad this afternoon/evening.
