Thanks all! This is all new to me and I am very confused. Is there a multivitamin that can be taken along to increase additional vitamins?

INTERESTING: https://www.amc.edu/academic/gme/progra ... olitis.pdf

I have been on Rituxan for 2 years, I have been trying to research B cell depletion and it's effects in regards to colitis and lack of B cells in colonic tissues. Or is this colitis they talk about in this article different from MC. TEX - any thoughts ?

I think those B cells are needed... But my mind is foggy and much of this is above my intelligence. I think I will stop the Rituxan treatments, I can't even imagine being any worse than I am right now.

I did see somewhere on here a member mentioned using RTX for MC. Probably not a good idea and as Tex mentioned on that
thread, it is a pretty severe treatment for MC.

Ann
regarding the multi - when people are in first stages of healing we suggest that people avoid things like multi's
a) the ingredient levels are quite low and not in doses high enough to provide benefit
b) if you react to one or some of the ingredients of the multi, there is no way to know which ones.

in the early stages of MC healing, we encourage Vit D3 and magnesium first off, and then active B's B6, B9, B12.

this sort of info is in our guidelines to recovery section
http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=79

will be interested in how you go with the pro-biotic. Thus far for majority of people here, they were not able to tolerate probiotics in the early stages of healing / and during flares.

hope this helps

I don't recall anyone mentioning B1 I know A year ago one of my Dr,s (pysc) told me to make certain my B complex included B1 and sure enough after my blood work results came in my B1 was at <7 standard range 8-30.

By the way I also tried A pro-biotic in the early stage and threw $50.00 in the trash and will never try one again.

In that article, the patient apparently had drug-induced colitis. It first presented as LC and after subsequent drug infusions it segued into a form consistent with Crohn's disease. Stopping the drug apparently allowed her gut to heal, so clearly it was a case of drug-induced colitis. I'm not sure why you're taking Rituximab, but I agree with you that we need B cells in order for our immune system to function properly.

If you have been taking Rituximab since before your MC developed, stopping the use of it might bring remission from MC. My guess would be that it is either the initial cause of your MC or it is significantly contributing to it.

I have no idea whether you can safely just stop taking it, or if a withdrawal program is necessary. And discontinuing the use of it may depend on why you were taking it in the first place.

Hi Terry,
I have been taking 'Jarrows B Rights' found a decent price at Vitacost.com and it contains B1 and all the others mentioned, maybe not in the amount that we need for a therapeutic dose but worth a look at it.

Thanks Tex for looking at that info, I will talk to my immune doctor about stopping the RTX for a while and see if my MC gets better. I know I have to do the work in regards to getting this flare to mellow out or go away using the diet changes I have learned in here.

I am kind of thinking the basmati rice is a trigger for me, every time I eat a little I have a lot more trips to the loo.... I will be on just air and plain water at this rate. LOL Without the TPN ( which I hate ) I wouldn't last long.

Thanks so much.

My mother informed me that her doctor discovered she was low on Vitamin D3. The doctor wrote her a prescription for D3 as it would build her level up much quicker that taking over the counter D3. Her levels normalized and now she now buys the vitamin over the counter. I see my primary next week. I am going to have my vitamin deficiencies tested. My primary is much more opened minded than my GI. This is day 3 of being off Budesonide. Had diarrhea twice yesterday, but was normal today. :cat:

Hi Ann,

I had a prescription of Vitamin D like your mother did and it brought my levels from 9 to 25 and then they moved me to an OTC version but I haven't been unable to get them higher than 25 on OTC.

However after some support in here I found Vit D drops and so I am taking that and hope to see my levels rise. ( I think I can absorb these better than taking them through my gut especially with all the WD I am having)

I would think your GI would be very open to testing for vitamin deficiencies, but if not most doctors are happy to do it, especially Vt D.

Keep us posted !

Hi Ann,

The system is kind of finicky about accepting image files unless they are correctly processed to suit it.

If you will send me an email with an image file attached I'll be happy to convert the image file into an avatar and upload it for you. You can send me an email by clicking on the "email" button at the bottom of this post.
