Is getting better for everyone?

Post by RedHen »

Is it possible for everyone to get better if he/she keeps trying? Or are there some people who's bodies just don't like any food at all and will always have WD no matter what?

I'm coming up on 4 weeks on magnesium and Vit D supplement use (a combo of pills and sprays), have gone through everything over the last year eliminating it at some point, and yet nothing changes. Nothing improves. I'm now on the tolerable meats (turkey, duck, lamb) with carrots..... nothing changes. Some days are just so discouraging.

Just wondering.

Hello there

It can be very difficult to think that it gets better. It took me a year to get my symptoms to where i could function normally again. Everyone is different. I use pepto bysmal 4 tabs in morning and chloyestrimine powder at bed time. After 2 weeks of that i am in remission. I have to eat very strictly. Any mistake and i pay for it. However my life is much better then it was a year ago. If you do the pepto thing it is 4 tabs in morningnand 4 tabs at night. Took me a few weeks to see results. Gotta heal first.

Thanks for that information. I had just started reading about Pepto in the book earlier today but glossed over it for some reason. I'm glad it worked for you and might just give it a try. Thank you!

I am one that my body takes a long time to heal, so I do empathise with your issue.
the wellness journey can take years for some of the members here, my observations as to some of the reasons why are:-

- external triggers causing more issues than food triggers (this could be more than excess histamine type triggers, it can be mold, chemical sensitivity, ongoing stress)
- other health issues causing major inflammation and nutritional deficiencies (this includes any medications or treatments that you might be doing for those health issues)
- bland diet alone was not enough where there has been years of inflammation and leaky gut, it can take months of good doses of things like Vit D3, magnesium, home made bone broth. (what types of things are you drinking)

have you had your Vit D3 level tested in the last 4-9 months? I see this as an important thing to do know your level and what sort of amount of supplementation you should be doing

in saying all of the above, there is a big part of healing process and that is the mental and emotional aspects of life with MC / chronic health issues. Have you looked at some of the suggestions in the guidelines to recovery section?

Thanks Gabes! You've given me much to think about. As for the bone broth, plain broth (homemade by us with our own meats except for beef broth) with only salt added seems to bother me. If I'm off of all entrocort tested meats, I'm assuming those broths are out now too. Is that a correct assumption? Otherwise I can try them again.

The only thing I drink is ginger tea (herbal). I know I need to see what happens if I don't drink it for a while but I don't like plain water and it's comforting at the moment.

Today I've started the pepto-bismol challenge. How many weeks should I try this? I'm guessing 4. I'm 100lbs - should I still go with the 4 in the morning and 4 at night dose? I've also ordered Remag to go along with my magnesium pills and spray.

I will have a blood test in the summer. I'll ask to have my magnesium and vitamin D tested then.

Your guidelines are very helpful. I've read through them before and will continue to do so.

Thanks so much for your help!

Yes, if your EnteroLab results showed that you are sensitive to certain meats, then you should not make bone broth from those bones either because they will always contain small amounts of protein — enough to make you react. Bones such as lamb, duck, turkey, deer, etc., should be safe for making bone broth.

At your weight I would think that 3 Pepto-Bismol tablets (or the liquid equivalent) in the morning and 3 at night should be sufficient. The original prescribed treatment period was for 8 weeks, but most patients see significant improvement in an average of about 2 weeks. If you begin to notice signs of constipation it may be necessary to lower the dose.

Remember to start slowly with the ReMag. It's potent stuff.

Best of luck to you on your recovery journey.

Welcome to the forum!

If you are struggling consider transdermal magnesium-- just epsom salt baths or epsom salt foot baths for awhile to get magnesium and/or spray magnesium oral or lotion.

When you start doing better switch to remag or mag glycinate in oral form.

Dr. Dean says on her website that remag can cause D.

My experience was I had to eliminate oral mag in order to stop WD and kick into remission. Now I can take mag glycinate orally but I had to eliminate it to go into remission.

I took 8 pepto at 135 pounds. 6 should be plenty for 100 pounds.

Yes, it took me 24 months at age 50. I had a reflare last summer from eating to "junky". After 4 months of WD it took me 5 months to get better this time at age 55.

Keeping trying is key.

Age comes into play. A younger person will heal faster than an older person.

Some prescription meds will prevent remission. I find when I have WD I need to eliminate supplements for awhile to get back into remission.

Most of our members stop posting when they get into remission.

Thanks Brandy! I am taking/using both magnesium pills and the spray. I will try to use more spray instead.

I'm almost 50, so I realize it will take a lot longer. Age! ; )

I've recently switched from Armour to Nature-thyroid. I'm not sure how to tell if either of these are contributing (or have contributed) to WD.

Just a note on the ReMag,

In a very small population of people it can cause D. But the nano size particles of the ReMag get absorbed into the blood stream before it can even reach the gut. If you start slowly ( like the directions say ) drink enough water, and sip throughout the day this really won't be the issue. Usually if there are shifts in the body, it's a by product of something else going on such as getting rid of heavy metals, etc. The beauty of the ReMag is you can control the tiny amount you take in a day plus use it transdermally. I just dont want people to be afraid of something that could really help them to heal. We are all different I know, but going slowly and listening to your body is key.....love V. Also the ReMyte will help your Thyroid, but baby steps

HI Redhen,
Is it possible for everyone to get better if he/she keeps trying? Or are there some people who's bodies just don't like any food at all and will always have WD no matter what?
Yes indeed I think everyone has a good chance of getting better as long as they keep trying. Everyone is different, I'm learning there is no 'one size fits all' approach to MC/LC/CC. You seem to be in beginning stages of healing even after a year....but that is ok. Coming to terms with this colitis is no fun deal and in order to heal a lot has to change, it's the most uncomfortable feeling in the world. I know! Your 4 weeks are momentous keep up the great work!!

I'm coming up on 24 months of healing and boy has it been a journey, good, bad and everything in between while getting healing at the same time.

I think stress has played a big part in my healing, a person has to watch that like a hawk and minimize it as much as possible, seriously. Don't second guess your healing, listen to your body and adjust a little here and there.

Biggest helpers for me were to understand my VitD levels and jump right in with good Magnesium externally and some internally (I use Lifeflo oil, and lotion and I use some ReMag, plus a few Drs Best Glycinate, I mix it up and do what I feel daily). Next thing was finding my safe foods (these are literally only 5-10 things) and eating protein often during the day (I am just now lightly backing off the protein in my second year, I will continue to eat it at least 3-4 times a day currently so that tells you how much I had been doing it). I make bone broth out of Cornish Hen bone carcass (and I turn it into a noodle soup with carrot and tikiyada gluten free noodles and only sea salt) and I'm sensitive to Chicken. It's important to get good night sleeps and enough of it for good healing and be kind to yourself even if it doesn't feel like anything is changing.

IF...for some reason you feel you have been following all the healing rules and "I would only consider this after you find all your safe foods and have gotten on the VitD3 and Mag band wagon and have healed a good LONG time" then and only then should you consider another option for a while I'd consider Cholestyramine "real sugar" powder, your Dr will need to prescribe this (there are enzymes from the gallbladder that just don't seem to want to digest and when they make their way to the large intestine it creates WD - your bowel movement will have a yellow tinge to it unless you are taking a lot of B vitamins so you may not recognize if you are passing extra bile enzyme or not) . It took 28 days using Cholestyramine for my body to get fairly under control in the D and that was after 18 months of healing when I plateaued. I know I have more healing to go so I have resumed the powder after a month hiatus since I am dealing with more D than I care to, and I am noticing that I have more healing time left to accomplish so I will experiment again later this Fall.

I wish you great success, and just know that yes everyone has their own personal degree of healing and it does happen
Cheers
Erica

Hi, Red. I'm a Pepto success story (120 lbs. at that time.) My GI prescribed 6 tablets a day for 8 weeks. I took 2 tablets 3x/day. After about two weeks I cut back to 4/day because I became constipated. I haven't had to take any other medication. I read Tex's book (listed in the upper right hand corner of this page) and made the dietary changes listed in the back of the book. You have come to the right place to help you on your journey to healing.
