when something is Naturally Occurring in a product

Post by Erica P-G »

I just asked customer service at Pacific Foods Oregon what their magnesium was in their Hemp beverage product and they responded with

Hello Erica,

Thank you for taking the time reach out via email. The magnesium in our Hemp beverage is naturally occurring from the hemp seeds.

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Regards,
Consumer Affairs Team

Am I to assume that the magnesium could actually be Oxide then? I felt that was a very vague answer.

Any opinions?

Erica,

Magnesium naturally comes from the soil and growing plants take it up with other nutrients while growing. Magnesium has an important role in photosynthesis because it forms the central atom of chlorophyll. In the plant, I'm guessing that magnesium is in the form of elemental magnesium. Seeds and nuts are a good source of magnesium, especially pumpkin seeds, but I have no idea what compounds are used to store the magnesium in seeds. Any magnesium amounts specified for any respective seeds would be the elemental amount. I doubt that it's stored as magnesium oxide, because if it were, we wouldn't absorb any significant amount of magnesium from plant-derived foods, and we know that's not true. We normally absorb magnesium quite well from plant-based sources.

Perfect....that is where my mind was thinking....but these days I just don't know anymore.

Thank you for solidifying the clarification.
Cheers
Erica

PS the only down side to the Hemp beverage is they can't say it is gluten free due to the fact that it only takes 3 seeds per pound of hemp seed to show gluten residue in the product so they are not able to say they are 100% gluten free. I guess until I feel an intolerance to it I don't let it get to me regarding that statement, but keep it at the back of the mind that if I do react at some point perhaps that could be something.

Erica, there is another hemp milk out there that I've bought in lieu of the recent claims of Pacific. It's not as good though. I believe it's Temp brand. Hopefully they haven't changed their claim of gf....it's been awhile since I've bought it, but you could check into another brand.

Pacific tasted really good!😢

Thanks Martha

I will keep my feelers out for another brand....the hemp milk isn't my staple milk, but when I just want to be different it is nice to know what I can change up, lol.

I don't know why but the So-Delicious brand stopped making their Ald/Coconut milk...that was my favorite and now I can't get it anywhere near me. I haven't tried asking a major store to see if they can get it in though...might have to try plan B pretty soon.

Thanks Tex....ya they still make some products just not the one that I fell in love with...and I just checked their site and I got this ....

http://sodeliciousdairyfree.com/product ... k-beverage

Apparently I didn't get the memo that it wasn't available anymore and I just sent their customer service a message asking why they pulled it. It was the best milk for mixing a powder in too. I have a texture thing and the single milks are just ok...maybe they weren't selling enough of it to keep producing it.

Sorry, I didn't know what "Ald/Coconut" meant, so I missed that.
