Bloated legs
Yesterday morning I woke up with my left calf and knee severely bloated and experienced severe pain. I have been taking Budesonide for the past five months. It is no better today. I am experiencing lower back pain now down my left side. Has this anyone ever experienced this strange phenomenon?

Ann,
I'm not sure about knee bloating, but my mom had a swollen calf and severe pain and it ended up being a blood clot....you might want to get that checked. Others on here might know about the budesonide maybe causing it, but I'm not checked out on that enough to comment. Good luck and I hope it goes away soon!

Ann,
Yes, I agree with Lou Ann. Definitely call your doctor. That's a known (less common) side effect of budesonide, but it could also be caused by something else (such as a blood clot), especially if your ankle is not swollen.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thanks for your support Lou Ann and Tex. I was hospitalized last month in the Cardiac unit due to chest and abdominal pain. I had a thorough checkup and multiple test and ultrasounds to detect blood clots. I saw my cardiologist last week and everything was fine. My ankles are terribly swollen as well.
Thanks,
Ann

Hi All,
I went to my doctor and he insisted that I had a sprained ankle or torn ligaments due to the swelling and black and blue marks. X-rays showed that my ankle and leg were normal. My knee X-ray showed a very old fracture. He asked if I ever had trauma to my knee. I was hit by a car 25-years-ago. He had no other explanation. I believe this swelling was due to the Budesonide. I have been wearing a knee and ankle brace and walk with crutches. I am now being sent to an Orthopedic Specialist. Still hate being passed from Doctor to Doctor. I have been off Budesonide for 11 days now with no problems.

Surely you would have noticed if you had sprained your ankle. Doctors really hate to admit that something they prescribed can cause adverse effects. That's good news that you haven't had any setbacks due to stopping the budesonide.
Thanks for the update. I hope that one of them eventually figures out what really happened.
