Sprouted beans?

Sprouted beans?

Hi everyone,

As I'm easing back into my diet, I'm trying to experiment with new foods. When my MC hit, I was having trouble with beans (undigested, along with a lot of other foods). I'd like to try to introduce small amounts of beans, because of the health benefits. I've heard of people eating "sprouted beans" that, because of the sprouting process, are supposedly easier to digest. Has anyone had any experience with sprouted beans, and if so, did you have luck eating them? If not, have you tried normal beans? Is that a no no for most of us?

When seeds (or beans, or whatever) are sprouted, the germ releases/propagates enzymes that convert the starch stored in the endosperm into simple sugars. IOW, the enzymes progressively digest the starch so that the energy will be available for the developing embryo. So yes, sprouted beans should be somewhat easier to digest.

But some of us (including me) have to avoid beans because they're legumes, and most of us who are sensitive to soy also react to legumes.

other than the legume/soy aspect that Tex has already mentioned the other key thing to check is fibre content and moderate serving size so that fibre intake is not too high.

I have not tried sprouted beans. I did try split pea soup last week. I was surprised I could tolerate it. I soaked the peas for 12 hours and then after everything cooked blenderized the soup to death.

Due to the soy connection I don't plan on eating this often....maybe once a quarter.
