Update On My Husband
Hello, I thought I'd give an update on my husband. 72 days after his admission to the hospital he still can't walk. He was discharged after 22 days, has been going back for physical therapy and he did get a nerve block in his back. He has been treating at our local VA Medical Center. Today I took him to a neurologist in a neighboring city. We will be going back on Tuesday for an EMG. He said that if it is GBS from the flu vaccine the insurance company will want proof because the I.V. treatment is very expensive. That leads to believe me that my initial guess of GBS is right on target and I expressed that from day 1 when I took him to the E.R. I don't want to bash the VA system, but the moral of this story is get a second opinion! I wanted to take him out of the system much sooner but he wanted to "give it a chance" and he was worried about the high deductibles with my health insurance. He didn't tell me that until a short time ago which was quite upsetting to me as you can't put a price tag on your health! He has lost 60 lbs. and spends his day in a recliner chair. This is a man who was a heavy equipment instructor, rode a Harley....it is heartbreaking to say the least. I finally feel that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you for the update, Marcia.
I do hope the IV treatments will be a full success and your husband will regain the ability to walk!
Take good care of yourself

Patricia

Be gentle with yourself. Be kind to yourself. You may not be perfect, but you are all you’ve got to work with.

I'm so sorry Marcia! I haven't been on here as often, but I kept checking for an update. You both have been in my prayers and will continue to be. I pray he gets the help he needs and can get back on his feet soon! You take care!

Thanks, ladies. I have high hopes that this doctor will have him on the road to recovery. My insides have stayed where they belong through all of this and I am very grateful for that!
