I really sympathize with Oma. It's time for me to look for more
freelance writing assignments!
Until last November, I had a year-long ten hour a week contract as a fundraising consultant, which covered my basics. I filled in with freelance writing assignments. I primarily write business and nonprofit communications (case studies, case statements, brochures, websites, and so on), but I also write the quarterly social services column for a teacher's union newspaper.
Since I've had this mystery illness, I've only been able to work about 20 hours a week. The freelance work fits perfectly with my need for flexibility, and I greatly prefer writing over consulting. I was aqctually glad when my contract ended so I could focus more on writing! But I was away for a few months and didn't work during that time. Now my bank account is screaming!!! Fortunately, I am in the middle of one assignment and have two others promised, but who knows when those two will really come through.
So time to pound the pavement----my least favorite part of freelancing. Wish me luck!

Celia,
I suspected you were a writer, since your posts are always well organized, and technically correct. And, you seem to be adept at researching topics. Also, your post in the "Journals" forum reminds me of a brochure writer.
That's what I need to look into--writing. Working outdoors, in weather like this, sucks. LOL. Good luck on your search for new assignments.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thanks Wayne, Jill, and Liz,
Wayne, you could easily be a freelace writer, especially with the medical knowledge you've developed. One of my friends writes for health care publications aimed at the general public. That could be your niche too.
I spent the day writing a few letters to prospects. But as it turns out, the heat got turned up on one of my assignments. They like what I did on the rough draft (yeah!), but now I have to complete the next draft by the end of this week or early next week. So I will be a busy little bee. Still I have to keep reaching out to new prospects, so I will have work when I finish this job.
