DOING OK WITH CHOLESTYRAMINE

Post by EUROPEU »

Hi, everybody

I'm posting this post to let you know how I'm doing with Cholestyramine. In the month of March I have gone from taking 0.5 grams daily to 0.5 grams every other day. Strict diet, although an ounce of hard cheese or chocolate from time to time, but gluten, soy and dairy free.

I have been without symptoms for a month and a half. I have been traveling for two weeks and an excess of gluten free bread, biscuits (too much sugar) I got back the WD and loses.but only for two days.

I have come back to the strict diet and I am again ok.The key to improving my health has been proteins, strict diet, vit D and Magnesium. Cholestyramine helps a lot, but i'll try to leave it next month and see what happens.

I hope this information is interesting for some of you.
I will keep you informed of my evolution.

Thank you for the help I have received from so many people here.
Best wishes for your health

Hello everybody

It´s a month since my last post , here is an update.

Since 4/12/2017 without Cholestyramine and no meds. and doing well except for three days in which I had little liquid looses. I was taking magnesium chloride I think magnesium chloride is the culprit of my first day not feeling well, for the second day I had brunch in a bar, perhaps the little wine I drank, and the chicken that I thought was cooked the day before caused my looses. The third bad day I had a very large meal, and this is something I cannot afford. Anyway, no WD, just a few drops and only lasted for these days. For the rest of the time I have been great.

I introduced in my April diet: peanuts, kiwi, potato chips, almond milk, Spanish omelette, cocoa, raw tomato and carrots, eggplant, ham, paella melon, pumpkin seeds, red pepper, walnuts, liver of veal and raw oranges and apples.

I have now a problem of halitosis that I had never had, so I am taking out of my May diet dark chocolate, cocoa, kiwi, oranges, red pepper and potato chips, I hope the esophageal reflux stop.

I have tried three days a small amount of gluten (cake) and nothing happened. My plan is to stop trying it, I don´t want any problems.
That's all for now. I´ll keep you posted.

I would appreciate any comments.

Best wishes

Avoiding the items you named should help to stop the reflux.

It sounds as though you are doing well without the cholestyramine.

Update. May 2017

I fail in my attempt to leave Cholestyramine , but happy with my health situation.

During the month of May I had liquid loses 3 days. In order to cope with this situation I have taken Cholestyramine for 13 days at the rate of 1 gram per day.
I have eliminated from my diet seeds, pears, gluten free noodles and corn that I think were the cause of the problems I have had.
I am currently four days without medication and ok.

After Reading the book The Plants Paradox, I eliminated peanuts, potato chips, eggplants, melon and pumpkin seeds. I refuse to remove the rice and gluten free bread that never have been a problem for me.

What do you think of The Plants Paradox and its author?. Perhaps this diet can be one more help to fight this disease. At the moment and following this diet I have been eating raw lettuce for 7 days without any problem and reduced the intake of animal proteins.
It would be interesting that everyone who has read this book would give us an opinion about it.

Best wishes to you all

I haven't read the book, but I think the author is on the right track. Antinutrients in plants are a major cause of leaky gut and leaky gut is a prerequisite to the development of food sensitivities.

DOING OK WITH CHOLESTYRAMINE

Update October 2017

Hello my dear friends :

Happy to post again. I just want to tell you how I am doing with my MC.

Five months with no meds at all except for two trips I made (I had to take Cholestyramine, 0,5 grams a day just for five days) .During these five months I have gone trough two surgical operations. Prostatectomy and inguinal hernia, miracle , but no siymptoms of MC during those days.

I´m following de diet in the book The Plant Paradox, taking Magnesium and Vit D every day
I have reduced my intake of proteins to 58 grams a day.

I drink a glass of goat milk in my breakfast every day and eat goat cheese (200 grams a week)
20 grams of dark chocolate every day. For the meat I only eat chicken and turkey and some fresh and canned fish. Walnuts and pistachios everyday and plenty of vegetables and fruits.I Keep gluten, sugar, red meet and soya free.

I think the worst of this desease is gone, at least for the moment.

Polly:

Happy to see you are posting a lot again, I got moved by your post in Facebook about a musslim woman in Holland.

The best for you all,

Enric

Hi
Yes, Plant Paradox is a piece of my answer, mostly in what to avoid. But adding in prebiotic, heavier fiber, and pass that threshold of tolerance, back it all comes back. I can't do 100%. Even of the polyphenols have a limit. There will never be Miracle noodles in my diet. My veggis are still cooked and limited.
But there is something substantial here. I use the pressure cooker a lot to remove lectins.
Cholestyramine is helping. I think. FODMAP is a piece for managing that threshold of tolerance. There are still days I have to go back and start all over with a day or 2 of white rice and broth. There are still mystery triggers.

Hi, Persevere

I agree with you , the most important thing about The Plant Paradox diet is what to avoid. I´m not concerned about polyphenols and even I don´t know what is such a thing as Miracle noodles.(I suppose they only exist in America)I have my Basmati rice cooked in my pressure cooker.
I have some gases after lunch. I´d like to know why, but for the rest i feel good.
I don´t follow either the recommendation in the book about the dayly intake of proteines, I have 58 grams a day as the OMS recommends.
I used to have Cholestyramine and it was very useful, but now I only take it when I have to travel.

Good luck
The best for you
