Hi Everyone,

I'm still plugging along, healing slowly but surely. I appreciate everyone's best wishes, prayers, and kind thoughts. It's probably going to be a slower world for me in the long run but we live too fast these days, anyway.

At least we're having beautiful weather this weekend. Life is good if we take the time to appreciate it.

OMG, I spent the winter in San Francisco to be with my family after my husband died. I haven't been on this site and was stunned to hear of this. I'm so sorry you had a stroke, Tex, hope and pray for a speedy and complete recovery. Since I'd had a small stroke 2 years ago, my daughter arranged for me to see a wonderful neurologist at UCSF. I had a battery of tests, all good except found an aneurism in the brain which will be watched every 6 months. I reluctantly agreed to start statins for stroke prevention, 10 mg Lipitor, so far no side effects after nearly a month.

I got on this site to ask a question, which I will now do.

My best wishes, Tex, hang in there!

Hi Tex,

I haven't been on here in awhile and so you can imagine my surprise when I opened this thread. So glad that you are home and recovering. I was in your state of TX the first week of April; one week early for the full bloom of bluebonnets and one week too late for the full spring bloom at the Arboretum. But the sky! The clouds were magnificent and it was good to get out if the rainy bay area.

Take good care,

I appreciate your kind and inspiring posts. Today is the first day that I've been able to use a keyboard normally (with two hands). And my attempts at handwriting are becoming much more legible, (although I still can't sign my name). When I got out of the hospital (a couple of weeks ago) if I tried to eat a bowl of cereal, I spilled most of it on myself. I'm much better now (I only spill about half of it on myself). LOL. Today I'm able to drink coffee without spilling or dribbling it on myself — a huge improvement.

My driving is improving too. A couple of weeks ago when I drove up next to the mailbox (I live out in the country), I always hit the mailbox with the mirror. Now when I drive up to it I'm able to do it correctly. (The mailbox no longer cringes when it sees me coming.) I still make way too many mistakes when typing and I'm mighty slow at the keyboard, but I can see that I'll eventually be able to get back most of my abilities if I continue to work at it.

Good Morning, Tex. I'm so glad to hear you're getting better and better. These days, it seems it's one thing after another. Your independent spirit and strength of character are going to get you where you want to be.

Hugs,

Well.... I'm chiming in a bit late. I just heard about your stroke today. I've read this entire thread, and I am glad to see you've been able to communicate here. Your sense of humor is definitely still with you! I'm praying you continue to heal quickly without any setbacks. You've helped so many of us "get our lives back." In my case, not only do I no longer have to "map out" bathrooms, I also fail to check in as often as I used to. Now that's real progress! I hope that by knowing how much we care and are praying for you that it is helpful in your recovery.

Tex,
I thought I had sent a message many days ago. Apparently, I didn't hit Send well enough.

Like so many others if not all, I wish for you good health and a speedy recovery. You will probably never know how much you have meant to this group. Take good care of yourself. If a respite is deserved, you deserve it!

Thanks dear friends,

I'm gettin' stronger, and that helps a lot, especially with walking, but my coordination, especially in my right hand, seems kind of slow to improve. It's better though, so I'll keep working at it.

All in all, I'm much, much better than I was during the first week after I got out of the hospital. This would be a lot easier if I weren't right-handed though. I'm able to do virtually everything that I could do previously — it just takes me a heck of a lot longer to do most things. But that's slowly improving.

Trying to monitor myself and decide if or how fast my abilities might be improving is kind of like watching the grass grow — I know it's happening, but it's hard to decide how fast it's happening. It never seems to be happening at the moment, but when we look back, we can see the difference.

HI Tex,

Gee I think I've heard that analogy before in our MC world
I know it's happening, but it's hard to decide how fast it's happening
I'm glad to hear you are feeling like there is progress even microscopically

I think of you often.....your support of me has been huge in my ability to become well...so even if I don't voice myself much the thoughts for wellness are always projected your way :bigbighug:

Hugs
