Suzy,

Its on the ReMag bottle. 1/2 teaspoon is 150 mg so 1/8 of a teaspoon would be 37.5 mg. I take an epsom salts, baking soda, and lemon bath 1-2 times a week but don't use any other magnesium. Sometimes if I'm super sore somewhere I will spray my ReMag on sore muscles. I also take Orthomolecular Products Vitamin D3/K2 drops. 10,000 IU's daily. I have a VDR snp in my DNA and require this amount even in the summer to keep my Vit D in the 50 range. Hope this helps! Also you have top notch customer service with RNA reset people. They are the best! Don't forget to sea salt your water and drink at least half you body weight in ounces. That step alone helped me immensely. It pulls the water into your cells where it belongs. I just followed the steps Dr. Dean recommends on her site, all the info is right there. That lady knows her stuff......

I have been on ReMag for @ 3 weeks and have slowly worked my way up to 1 3/4 tsp in a quart of water. I too have gerd and am on Prilosec. I have tried to wean myself off of Prilosec in the past taking another med that is not a SSRI. It did not help the reflux and after suffering for about 1 1/2 weeks I reverted back to taking Prilosec because it was unbearable.

The reason I am writing to you is, I was wondering how long I should wait to try getting off of the Prilosec again? I was just wondering how long it took you?

i am not Vanessa but we have discussed this type of thing with other users so i hope my reply is helpful...

One suggestion is to start taking Rantidine as you taper off the Prilosec, this will help the gerd symptoms...

fixing magnesium deficiency is tricky as for some people it may only take 8 weeks, for others it may be 4 months or longer.
you are having about 500mg per day - the hard part as to how long before you have good levels of magnesium depends on a) how long you have been deficient and b) if you are still having any meds or food drink items that use/deplete the magnesium
based on experience of others, I would wait at least 8 weeks of the good dose ReMag before making any medication changes

are you taking Vit D3 as well? have you had your levels checked recently - this is also key for management of gerd symptoms...

the main indicator we have is listening to our bodies, if you taper off the prilosec again, and the symptoms are too bad then your body was not ready and you may need a bit more time...

hope this helps

I agree with Gabes.....get a good amount of ReMag under your belt for 8-12 weeks and then try slow reduction of Prilosec. My GERD faded after about 3 months of 600 mg of ReMag....but I was not on a PPI for the rebound effect.

Hi All,
I'm very interested in this thread. My question is if you have had the laxative effect from taking magnesium and if not, how did you avoid it? I can't get to far into magnesium supplementation until I have to back off for that reason.

Thanks, Carol

Carol,

Yes, oral magnesium causes D for me if I take too much, or if I take too much at one time. I take 100 mg of Dr's Best magnesium glycinate after breakfast, 100 mg after a morning snack, 100 mg after lunch, etc. IOW, spread it out during the day and take magnesium glycinate (not magnesium citrate) to avoid or minimize D. Or use topically-administered magnesium for at least part of your total dose. You can use topical magnesium for all of your magnesium needs, if you prefer. Topically-applied magnesium should not cause D, no matter how much you use, unless you are allergic to it.

Hi Carol,

Good to see you around again!

The ReMag liquid I use is Dr. Carolyn Deans product. I seem to be one of those that doesn't absorb mag pills very well and use this product. I sip it throughout the day in my water. You can read about it at RNA reset.com and see if it resonates with you. It never caused D for me. It is a super absorbable form of mag due to its particle size. It doesn't even reach the gut before it gets into the cells. You have to start low and slow with this one and follow some common sense instructions, but it truly changed my world. I also like that you can use topically and orally as you see fit.

Thank you both-- Tex it just so happens that I have Drs. Best chelated magnesium glycinate, but in 200mg tablets, so I'll see if it's possible to break them in half and maybe I can more effectively spread it out. I have a magnesium spray that I use when I get foot cramps. I could use that daily. Those 2-3 years that I spent being C prominent-- well I wish I knew then what I know now-- I would have started taking magnesium then!

Vanessa, I will read up on Dr Dean's research and ReMag. It sounds like it's worth taking a serious look.

Thanks again,
Carol

Carol,

Are you sure they're 200 mg per tablet? If the front label says 200 mg, and the back label says the recommended dose is 200 mg, and in another location it says that the serving size is two tablets, they're 100 mg per tablet. I made the mistake of taking half enough of another brand because of that confusing labeling convention.

 You are correct again Tex. When I look on the back label it says "200mg per SERVING, and a serving is 2 tablets. ". But, yes, you have to read the fine print to know that. So glad we had this conversation. I was ready to start cutting some in half.

Thanks so much
Carol
