Homemade Electrolyte Recipe

Post by elbailey »

Does anyone else have issues with maintaining energy levels for exercising? I play tennis and took a break while MC conditions were particularly bad over the winter. I just tried playing again and found my energy level to be very low. I know I was struggling with getting used to the new Stage 1 diet, so perhaps this will go away over time but just wanted to check if other people have issues with maintaining energy levels.

Also, has anyone found a MC tolerant electrolyte recipe or drink they can recommend?

Thanks,

Erika

Hi Erika,

Low energy/fatigue is one of the primary symptoms of MC. It's also one of the most persistent symptoms. It usually lasts a year or more past remission from diarrhea. This post contains a recipe for a safe homemade rehydration drink.

This is a link to a post that has the electrolyte drink. I don't add sugar to mine because I am diabetic.

Thank you! I had found this recipe when I first was went to the site but could not it since. I am not sure I have fully figured out the best way to search for topics in the archives.

https://nuunlife.com/products/nuun-active/

I looked at nuun's website above. TI used the active tabs for working out and when I was trying to stay hydrated when experiencing a lot of D but I stopped using it with the Stage 1 diet. But I see that it is listed as soy, dairy, and gluten free!

It does contain dextrose, citric acid, and stevia.

According to the website other ingredients include:

"plant based sweetener monk fruit and a touch of stevia leaf extract to provide a crisp and light sweetness
non-gmo sourced dextrose to increase the speed of absorption and hydrate you faster
avocado oil for clean, plant-based production"

Any questionable ingredients for MC? Is Stevia a concern as an artificial sweetener?

Citric acid can be troublesome for MC'ers in the first stages of healing (this may be because it is manufactured from mould/mold based origins)

Stevia is the safest of natural sweeteners as it is plant based.
