flare up HELP!

Post by dmc »

I haven't had a major flare up in years and in the past have controlled my MC through diet (GF, DF). A couple days ago it started in a MAJOR way. I'm switching GI's and can't get in for a month. I have 4 kids and on/off meetings all day for work - my energy level is near zero and my symptoms are out of control.

HELP :) :) THANK YOU!

Hi D.

Sorry to hear. I went through your situation last summer. Some things to try:
1. Try the antihistamines....Benadryl or claritin. Try one for 4-5 days if that does not work switch to the other for 4-5 days. Sometimes the antihistamine will kick me out of a flare pretty quickly.
2. Consider eliminate all oral supplements for awhile. (counterintuitive I know) Patch MD sells vitamin patches that some use.
3. Consider protein and broth for a couple of days.

When I go to protein and broth only and eliminate oral supplements that will generally kick me into "soft serve."

My PCP was ok with prescribing me cholestyramine. I would say it is a step between the pepto and not as strong as Entocort (budesonide) if you can get into seeing your PCP.

Is there anything new that has changed in your world? Stress? New meds? Cross contamination? I'm sure you've asked yourself these questions.... Brandy gives great advice to go back to basics until things calm.

Thank you all so much! Not sure what I would do without this support group :) :) Healthy spring/summer to all!
