Lou Ann,
I wasn't put on anything except Clonidine for night sweats during menopause. That is when I had the worst pvc's during menopause. They went away when I was told to drink more water. I still feel them once in awhile. But I am through menopause. I am 66yrs. old. If the med is helping use it, write your questions down for the Doc. So you have them when you see them next. PVC's are annoying when you get them that is for sure.

Well, the cardiologist visit went well. New young guy (have seen him in the hospital a few times..didn't know who he was). He says the runs of atrial tachycardia on the report aren't a big deal....that ya, menopause may play into it...that my HR isn't crazy so unless it's bothering me horribly he wouldn't do anything about it. If I want they can prescribe a low dose beta blocker but I really don't want to go there.. So that is good news.
Erica- I will slowly bump up the progesterone cream. I read about soy...will have to see how it goes. The ingredient list doesn't specifically mention soy but who knows right?? Thanks for your input. Good to know!!
Don't worry Gabes, I will not back down on my magnesium!!!
And Tex, I asked the cardiologist specifically if it was ok for me to take Benedryl to help me sleep and he said that it's fine. I know you were talking about Allegra but I figured I would ask him anyway!!

Laine,
Well, that is indeed good news from the appointment with the cardiologist. I'm beginning to think these heart issues are sorta like rattles in new cars. Back in the good old days when the small country town where I went to school still had a chevy dealership, if you bought a new car and then went back to the dealership complaining of a rattle or some other unusual sound, they would send you to the back of the building, to the repair shop. The shop foreman was a career chevy mechanic who had been with the dealership for decades. He would attentively listen while you explained in detail exactly what was going on, and when you finished, without hesitation he would drawl, "awwwww, they all do that".
Thanks for the update.

Hi Laine, I know I'm late to this thread, but I came to it through a search about Cholestyramine, since I've been taking it for about a month and am thinking that it might be causing some dizziness. I was noticing in your first post that you mentioned taking quite a bit of it. I tend to be on the sensitive side to meds, but I started on just 1/4 packet/day and got constipated, so I'm scaled back and have just worked my way up to 1.5g/day. Just wondering if it could be causing issues for you if you are taking it 2x a day, since it apparently sequesters vitamins and minerals along with the bile acids...(I don't know if that is the scientific process, but it reduces the efficacy of other drugs, and reduces vitamins and minerals). I just found this article (which also states that it can potentially cause liver damage), which is making me question whether I really want to be taking it: https://selfhacked.com/2016/06/17/11-pr ... estyramine
Hey DB-
Thanks for the concern. I read all that stuff initially so I am supplementing with the fat soluble vitamins. I've been taking cholestyramine since September and have actually decreased the dosage. I'm a freak about the timing of the stuff with my supplements!!!
I've had complete blood work done the end of January and all was well including the thyroid tests...just had the thyroid stuff redone for another reason and the nurse practitioner said she hadn't seen results that good in quite awhile!! So that was comforting. Had my vitamin D checked on my own in March and that was 76...backed down on that to about 6,000/day.
Actually (knock on wood)...I have been feeling much better the past few weeks. I will give some credit to slathering myself with 100 mg of progesterone cream a day!!! I'm not doing the crazy crampy/feeling like I'm starting a bad period every day...which helps the gut. It helps sleep some too, although I'm starting to think I will NEVER get back to my old sleep patterns..well, never say never huh??

Thanks for the update- good to know that the vitamin levels are doing well, and glad that you seem to have found your answer! Yay for feeling better!
I hear you on the sleep patterns... I used to sleep like a champ. Then a few years ago my sleep went totally haywire. Lately it's been a bit better though... maybe all the vitamins and minerals I've been taking!

Sorry to hear you are getting the shakes and hope it gets under control soon.
I actually have been experiencing similar symptoms of lightheaded sort of dizziness. Hard to explain but feels almost like a very subtle electric shock in the head. I thought this was due a side effect of tapering off an SSRI over the last month that my GI agreed could be an influencing factor in getting MC since there are thought to be linkages. But I am continuing symptoms since I have stopped taking the SSRI and was wondering if associated with Mg now. I am taking topical with a goal of 400 milligrams of Mg. I tried the liquid instead of topical but felt like very off when taking that. Felt almost like it affected urge to urinate...where you feel like you didn't need to go even though I was drinking lots of water. So I am not using liquid and just 12 sprays twice per day of oil for 400 mg. I forgot one night and woke up with one of the worst leg cramps I have experienced. I am taking a multi vitamin which does have fairly small amount of Ca and Mg oxide. Wanted to share and check to see if there is anything here to add to linkage between lack of or too much Mg and the shakiness.
Thanks,
Erika

Erika,
Just a few notes on the Mag. Too much mag at once has a fail safe, which is diarrhea. If you were taking the liquid magnesium ReMag, you were most likely feeling your bodies enzyme systems "waking up" which can feel odd and scary. It is also a natural detoxifier and plays a major role in the nervous system (and just about every system). You have to start low and slow with ReMag.
Magnesium oxide is about 4% absorbed in the body and is the worst offender at causing diarrhea. I don't know if you are getting calcium from your diet, but your ca and mag should be at a 1:1 ratio. 600mg of Calcium requires 600 mg of mag.
I have come off of SSRI's and benzos before. Both took months to recover from and I had the brain "zaps" that you are talking about. They won't last, but things linger for awhile. Keep up with topical mag and epsom salts soaks for now and revisit oral mag when you feel up to it.
Sorry if I confused the issue!

Hi DB - I am not taking Cholestyramine.
Thanks, Vanessa, for your input. That doesn't confuse the issue. It actually helps. I figured the "zaps" were from coming off the SSRI but did not think it would linger. And, I think I will stick with the the topical Mg for now and try work my way slowly into the ReMag again in a few weeks. Thanks for the Ca to Mg ratio. I just saw there is a lot of Ca in almond milk, which I have discovered I can tolerate and just started adding to my diet. Plus there is 200 mg in the multivitamin. That can add up to a lot of Ca quickly.
I was mostly taking the multivitamin for C and B's, but perhaps it is better just to drop the multi-vitamin and go with a separate B supplement and C supplement? Any MC friendly brands that can be recommended? I have never been much of a vitamin taker so this is all unchartered territory for me.
Thanks,
-E

E,
we have found that most people benefit from taking specific B's and C (and avoid multivitamins) most multivitamins do not have the type/form of B's we should be taking, and the dosages of things like B6, B12 and magnesium are not high enough.
Thorne brand Methyl Guard (active B6, B9, B12) is MC safe product, available from iHerb.
given the calcium situation, and the needs of your body, you would need at least 400mg ELEMENTAL magnesium per day, and to resolve deficiency up to 600mg elemental magnesium per day. Check the dosage information for your topical product.
if you are taking other meds and/or drinking any caffine products these may also deplete magnesium.
If you are having histamine symptoms this also depletes magnesium
hope this helps

HI DB....
If you had constipation only using 1/4 of a packet then you do not need Cholestyramine. Your diet changes will be your biggest help at this point in your healing.
Only use cholestyramine if you see yellow bile after a bowel movement (and this would be if you know it isn't your B vitamins causing the yellowing in the toilet). The excess yellowing is bile enzymes that have not absorbed into the small intestine. Once those enzymes reach the large intestine they are your culprit for water diarrhea. You may not have rushing to the bathroom WD you'll just get to a point that everytime you have a bathroom urge it will just be watery with no formations.
Cholestyramine is helpful but there is a timing for it. If someone gets to a point that they have let a good long period of healing occur and followed diet restrictions closely but they can't stop the WD then a round of the cholestyramine may be a missing piece of the healing puzzle.
I would not do the cholestyramine at early stages of healing, but that is just me and how my set of circumstances worked out for me. Also if one takes this silica at good times apart from supplements or medications there is no problem of absorption issues (hoping that absorption isn't an issue while taking it due to MC and it's ways with our bodies as it is :-)
Cheers
