Massage

Post by cludwig »

Hi Friends,

Well, I had a strange response to a massage I had Thurs. morning. Two weeks ago I started getting lumps in my lymph glands on my neck behind my ears. I found them because they slightly itched. Scared me at first but they didn't grow and would go away and reappear in a different spot. I don't have a cold or any ear or teeth problems. So I went to get a massage and she worked on my neck. Well, afew hours later I started having D ...late afternoon and evening...very unusual for me. Fri. morning I had 5 rounds. Once everything was out, I felt okay. Anyone know what this is about? I didn't eat anything new.

Love,
Cristi

Hi Cristi-----

Are U talking about a BODY massage or a MASSAGE of the neck area???

Sorry if I sound a bit confused----
I had a full body massage a few years back----After it was done and she SLOWLY sat me help----I had some dizzyness---but I attributed it to the *pressure points* that might have been worked on???

I know that when I use to go my Chiropractor--I always warned him!!! I dont need any *runs*!! cus there is an area, when doing the back, that would stimulate the bowel!!!!

Hope U R feeling better

Hi Barbara,

She did my back, shoulders and neck....spent a lot of time on the neck. I was dizzy too at first. Could be pressure points...never heard of those. I was wondering if she released some toxins in my tissue. I drank a lot of water afterwards....but still got D big time. Strange.

HI, a few years back Mike and I were getting a massage a week followed by a trip to the Chirorprator.....I had some changes in bathroom habits but I attribited it to this...massage will help circulation as well as other things that have been not working properly. Had you eaten anything prior to your massage? I wonder if you were havin an adverse reaction to the oil that wa used if one was used. Or maybe something in the area where your massage took place. Massage also supposedly releases toxins that can build up in your muscles. Don't know the truth to it, but it does make some sense.

And like others have said there are points on the body that if a accupressurist or accupuncturist hits can cause certain parts of the body to release. Don't know if it's true either though.

On the topic of accupuncture I have been trying it recently. Hard to say what difference it's making as I'm doing other things during this time as well. But I do feel better, have a bit more energy, the bowels seem mostly ok and feel less stress/anxiety. If anything the endomorphins (sp) can't hurt. :)

Hi Cristi,

It is difficult to know what went on. The lumps you describe sound most like hives, which itch and tend to move around to different locations. Do you know if they were red or not? If they were hives, then perhaps manipulating them caused the release of histamine, which led to the diarrhea. Just a WAG.

Of course, in my experience the D is almost always related to some dietary indiscretion......like licking an envelope (gluten can be in the glue), using a utensil that was used for pasta, for example, etc.

I hope all is well now.

Love,

Polly

Hi Polly,

I am feeling better now. The lumps were not red and only mildly itched. I didn't eat anything different...but I thought I was reacting to a gluten contamination as well but I felt really good after everything was out unlike when I react to food I ache for a week with joint pain and fluish...that didn't happen this time. Just a mystery.

Love,

I was searching thru the posts for something regarding massage. I too had a bad experience with massage just yesterday. My shoulders and neck had gotten to the point I can barely hold my head up anymore. I have been on Budesonide for 1 month and felt I was confident enough to go out and get a deep tissue massage. I have had these massages plenty over the past couple years for existing neck issues. I wasn't out of the office for 20 minutes and had D. I ate the exact same diet today and have had no affects. I presume it is the massage or the lotion. I rescheduled again for Monday and am a little embarrassed to ask to read the lotion bottle - it always feels a little accusatory. This is the first D. I have had since starting Budesonide. if this was a flare due to massage - that's not good? or if the massage knocked toxins loose? Is that good?

Gracie, my thoughts are it was the combo of both - the lotion and releasing of toxins

where you are paying for a treatment/service, then i think it is more than ok to ask about products being used.

did you only have the one episode of D, or has it been ongoing for more than 12 hours?

It was just the once and then the colon was a little exhausted/sore for a couple hours. I should be able to ask about the products more easily, it is just uncomfortable - especially when I don't always understand what is happening. Do you think a lotion can have that fast of a reaction?

the lotion coupled with deep tissue activity - yes.

others here have reported D within 2 hours of having a dental clean (small amount of product with gluten)

Thank You, it'll will be hard to decide if the massage relief on the neck and shoulders outweighs the consequences that follow. It sure feels like this MC gets me one step forward and two back more often than not

Sadly - that is the case. Our bodies are super reactive at times.
different day, different time with safe lotion you might be ok with deep tissue massage.

the first 12 -18 months is a big learning curve, learning to listen to our bodies, know what we can do, not do, what works, what doesn't etc.

massage might be ok, just not deep tissue.
