Hi Erika,

I was an Entocort user. 4.5 months. If you are doing pretty good agree with Gabes, take immodium and/or pepto and use it for any issues and take the Entocort with you as emergency backup, i.e. don't start it.

Entocort does not heal us. It helps with the symptoms but can be tough for some of us to get off of it. I found it to be a pretty strong drug.

If your MC is manageable for you then don't even start the Entocort. Bring it along if it is not overly expensive to fill.

If you are doing fairly well then no need to start the scrip.

***Also, avoid the bumplebee salmon if it says has vegetable broth as it will contain soyl***

Hi Erika,

I was in an active flare last summer on a trip from Florida to Seattle. It was basically manageable in that I had 1 or 2 WD in morning. I did better eating a lot of protein on the trip. I used Pepto/and or immodium as backup.

If I had been having WD 20 times at night and nightly incontinence in the bed and on way to hotel bathroom then Entocort would have helped me survive but I was able to manage without the Entocort.

Hopefully this explains the continuum of the disease.

I did find it helpful to pack flushable wipes in my suitcase and also flushable wipes (smaller packs wipes) in my purse.
There was a couple of times I had to wipe down toilet seat etc a couple of times and the flushable wipes were helpful.

We will be interested in your after trip report.

You are very welcome, Erika!

Honestly, if it wasn't for all the kind and helpful people on this website, I would be in a very dark place right now. I was physically so sick when I first joined, mentally worried sick, the combination was awful. The ability to lead an active life and even travel is thanks to all of you wonderful Potty People!!!

Sorry I haven't joined back in for a while. Life has been super busy as of late since return from trip to Europe. I did want to take a moment to send out a HUGE thank you for all the thoughtful advice in helping me prepare for my trip to Europe!!!

So, the trip went SO much better than I thought (with regards to my stomach behaving)! I think I had two mornings of upset stomachs and that was it...which was amazing in my view. I was definitely going into unchartered territory. I was very glad I had some LARA bars, fruit bars, lots of rice cakes and sunflower nut butters to hold me over when I couldn't find a good restaurant option. I was with a group and I didn't want to hold back the group from eating when we were hungry if there wasn't a good restaurant choice around.

The instant rice measured out in small bags was a beautiful idea, Erica. It worked great and I found you could always find a cafe in the airport that was more than willing to give you a small cup of almost boiling water in a coffeee to-go cup (96 or 98 dec C; close enough to make some decent instant rice). Or on the plane works too, although it won't be quite as hot and you don't have a good place to pour out extra water and is not nearly as good as the hotter water from the cafes.

I was super suprised to find out that areas I visited in Northern Europe were very well adapted to being able to accomodate food allergies at restaurant. I think in general the more fresh game meats and using what is in season for fresh veggies helps with that. Nerthlands in particular seemed to offer a lot of gluten fee, soy free, dairy free options. Someone else mentioned this, but they have lots of gluten free fresh made breads in the Netherlands.

I did find breakfast to be tough in some places. I ended up testing some fruits while on the trip just because I needed to eat something for breakfast and suprisingly found I could reasonably tolerate the melon mixture that was offered for breakfast all over. And bacon seemed to go o.k. I had a hard time finding bananas that weren't so green that you literally couldn't peel into them. I ate a lot of terrible bananas. In retrospect, I would just skip paying for breakfast at the hotel and eat rice cakes and nut butter in my room.

Oh - I also found that there was this really great little chain coffee store, PREET, in UK that offered lots of quick go to snacks that were gluten free, soy free, dairy free. I could stop by there and get a cup a coffee and load up on snacks before we headed out for the day.

At sit down resatuarants, I ate a lot of simple meat and root veggie dishes (lamb and fish were most common). I usually just told the waiter I coulnd't have gluten, dairy and soy and picked a meat dish to start with and then they modified accordingly.

For plane trips, I took advice from others and ate a good meal before I got on the plane and then tried to sleep and if needed eat what I brought on the plane. There was very little I could eat from the gluten free meal option. Lots of dairy and soy in the meals.

For return trip, I bought some smoked salmon at the airport but ended up bringing home instead (after declaring in customs; they said that was an allowable meat....good to know for future trips....depends on destination country, but was surprised this was o.k..

Thanks again!

Erika
so so pleased to hear that the trip went well, that you found safe eating options and did not have any major MC issues!
