Enterolab results
Hi everyone-
I hope everyone is having a good weekend. I received my results today. I am pretty amazed at the turn-around time. Here are my results:
Comprehensive Gluten/Antigenic Food Sensitivity Stool Panel
Fecal Anti-gliadin IgA 62 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)
Fecal Anti-casein (cow’s milk) IgA 17 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)
Fecal Anti-ovalbumin (chicken egg) IgA 21 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)
Fecal Anti-soy IgA 24 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)
Mean Value 11 Antigenic Foods 13 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)
Food to which there is no reactivity: Walnuts
Food to which there was some immunological reactivity (1+):
Oat
Corn
Rice
Chicken
Tuna
Beef
Pork
Almond
Cashew
White potato
There were no 2+ or 3+ foods, which I think is good. My question now is rice......should I avoid it and stick with white potato? Also, should I eliminate chicken? I am not sure about the 1+ list. Also, when MC is active, are nuts okay? I thought it was good to avoid nuts. But I must admit, I would love to have an easy snack I could keep in the car (I work out of my car).
Any insights in to my results would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
angela

Hi Angela,
Having no 2+ or 3+ foods is good for sure. With an overall score of only 13 on that test, foods in the 1+ category should not be a major problem. Most people with similar test results are able to eat them on a rotational basis without any problem. IOW, if you don't eat a particular food every meal, or every day (if eating it every meal causes problems), you will be fine. It's a matter of how often and how much.
If you're in a flare, whole nuts are contraindicated, but nut butters may work. Some are available in individual pouches, for convenience. Nut butters as a spread make a good snack.

Yes, you are very lucky with the low overall score and no foods in the 2 and 3 category - you should be able to set up a pretty good eating plan.
with the high gluten result I would be very careful about contamination etc and double check bathroom products etc to ensure there is no wheat germ etc.
I would be very very cautious about having nuts as a snack, they are high fibre. and ideally snacks should involve protein of some sort, that's where things like protein powders work well.

Thank you both for responding. That is very helpful. I am working on my food list for the coming week. The lab tests are very helpful. Where I know you can do an elimination diet without them, it is so helpful knowing something needs to be eliminated. More than gluten, it is challenging for me to give up eggs. Now that there is a number associated with eggs, the confirmation makes it a bit easier.
Is my egg and caesin response considered high? I know it is high, but since Gabes mentioned that my gluten was on the high side, I am curious if those are. I am still eliminating, just curious.
Thank you both again!

They're high enough to remove any doubt about your sensitivity to them. But you're in luck with the eggs. Most people can safely substitute duck eggs. Some supermarkets carry them. If you can't find them there, you can find them at farmers markets.
You're very welcome,

Yes the egg and soy was very high and casein highish - with a low overall score, anything above the 10 is a strong indicator -
I think removing soy from your household is way harder than anything else as soy is such a cheap ingredient and used in everything.
especially personal /make up products etc. and very common in gluten free processed items like breads, biscuits etc.
Re the Eggs, once there has been healing quite a few people do ok with things like duck eggs.
I have been ok with chicken eggs during my MC journey, albeit I am particular on where I purchase them and what the chooks are feed. at the moment my 3 sources of eggs, the chickens are free range, never had hormones, do not get fed soy based feed etc. the eggs are from people that live within 5 minute drive of my house so the eggs do not have contact with excess of toxins etc.
in the Dee's kitchen area there are replacement options for eggs and quite a few recipes with egg free option.

one of the reasons I tend to focus more on the gluten results and talk to that is that gluten has a long half life in the body, is highly inflammatory and the smallest amount can cause major issues in MC world.
I am not sure if you have read this in other posts/discussions here, gluten free products manufactured in the USA can have up to 20parts per million of gluten and still be classed as Gluten Free. in comparison Gluten Free Products in Australia can only have 5parts per million of Gluten.
what this means that if you are having gluten free cereal, breads, flours etc every day that over the course of the day you could be getting too much exposure - especially if you happen to be having contact with gluten at home in shared kitchen etc
that is why sticking with whole foods, safe proteins and well cooked safe veges is best foundation for healing
hope this helps

Again, thank you both! Funny, I feel I have been all over this site. But then I forget what I read. I completely forgot about Dee's Kitchen. Thank you for that reminder!
This week I am going to focus on getting the food right.....it is a challenge to change some hard habits. I do get that especially with healing, it is best to stick with whole foods. I am not new to sticking with whole foods, but I have never cut out eggs before. I don't plan on any GF baking or purchasing "GF" items until much later. My headaches over the last two weeks have been very challenging. I am doing Mg Oil and Vit D, but I am sure it takes a while.
I will start working on personal/make up items, but it may not be today. I haven't ever looked at that. I am sure it is in everything I have.
Thank you both again for your help and insight!

Angela,
it takes 21 days to 'bed in' new habits, so putting your energies into sorting out your meals is good idea.
the headaches can be a combo of things - your body adjusting to being gluten free (gluten, sugar etc are highly addictive), also now that you are doing mag oil, your body will also be clearing toxins..
make the changes (meals, personal items etc) at the pace you can handle.
good luck
