Budesonide suppresses inflammation. It will reduce the swelling of the 'roid somewhat. In addition, if/when it controls your D, just stopping the D will allow a 'roid to shrink. D inflames hemorrhoids and causes them to swell. It's caustic and more abrasive than most people realize. Without D, 'roids are seldom a problem.

. . . which is why I worry a little that a regime change--ie introduction of a new drug such as Budesonide--might swing me the other way too much, and aggravated the 'roid even more.Gabes-Apg wrote:to expand on Tex's reply above - constipation is just as irritating to roids.
That said, I take Tex's point re. inflammation and the caustic nature of D.
Thanks again to you both.
PS" although stools still watery, now that I have been taking psyllium (for about a week),
a) they are at least partly formed most of the time
b) BMs reduced to 3 times a day (roughly 2 around breakfast and 1 in evening)
c) less sourness and crampiness in tummy.
The reduction in BMs is actually quite a significant difference than I was even a week before. But whether this is sufficient to get rid of the persistent 'roid, I don't know.
Hi Pebble,
You will get solid stool with budesonide. If you get constipated you simply step down to lower dose. Typically you start with three pills a day so when you get consistent solid stools you step down to 2 pills per day. Then eventually you go to 1 pill per day.
It worked pretty fast for me. Within 48 hours I went from "ribbon stool" to a norman.
I'm not for sure-speculative on my part- but I don't think you would need the psyllium on budesonide.
