Glutened or MC? Need advice, please help

Post by Beccasue »

Hi everyone,
So I've been sticking to my gf, sf, df, cf diet and Friday night I got a salad off a gluten free menu. The next day I had an attack I've only ever had twice before, it feels like a Charley horse in my intestines, it lasted 7 hours! The dr had given me hyocamine for this yrs ago, but it didn't even help. The pain was so bad I almost passed out, which has never happened to me before. Then I had gas so bad it was in my intestines, under my ribs, and in my shoulders. Now it's Monday, I've had wd since, and my lungs even hurt from not being able to take a deep breath for so long. My stomach is tender and bloated and hurts when I walk or stand up. My question is do you think I was glutened( I have celiac) or is this from my MC? I cannot figure out how to get my stomach to stop being so severely sore, it's like the cramping was so bad I'm bruised internally or something. Any advice please... I know the dr can't help :(

hi there
sorry you had a such an intense reaction.

my thoughts are it could have been a combo of things - without knowing the exact ingredients my initial thoughts are the combo of 'high fibre' coupled with it very likely had gluten contamination along with soy based ingredients in dressings etc, there is a high risk that you may have also had contact with some sort of bacteria/virus
any or all of these things can cause the cramping and pain you describe and it is very common for MC.

what did you drink while you were out?

Hi Gabes,
I was thinking I may have gotten a touch of food poisoning as well. I had a martini, but in the past they haven't given me any problems. I am usually extremely cautious, and my husband said since I've been eating so clean, maybe I reacted worse than ever. But is the residual pain normal? And for how many days? Is there any natural remedies that can help?

I suspect the salad may have had a bacterium, otherwise you shouldn't have such a severe residual effect. The fact that you have been "eating so clean" would make any food reactions worse, however. But they wouldn't go on and on.

bacterium in the salad coupled with contaminates and alcohol would definitely cause that issue
