I'm really interested in getting a 23andme test and I've got a really basic question. Do I order the $79 Ancestry test or the $179 Health and Ancestry Test(all on sale)?
I really want to find out if I have the MTHFR gene and more about my methylation issues.

there was recent discussion about this - if you go through the main message board posts for the past 3 weeks you will see it
I am certain there is more benefit to getting the full kit - so that a) you have access to your raw data to do third party reports.
as time goes on and more reports become available you will have lifelong access to your data to run these reports

I agree with Gabes that I think it is easier to get information on your health through the full test. Here is a comparison of the two.

I looked at the 23andme site a few weeks ago and it says it no longer offers the MTHFR gene testing. Only 10 others approved by the FDA. Do they have another way of getting the MTHFR testing besides specific gene testing?
Just curious for other folks since I had to use Quest Diagnostics.

just to clarify Wendys post above
the methylation report may not be directly available from 23andme, but you can get methylation reports for full methylation cycle genetic markers via 3rd party web sites such as livewello, genetic genie, nutri hacker are some.

Gabes is right of course. I didn't notice anything on the testing that had significantly changed. When I ordered the test, about 3 years ago, I used Genetic Genie for the Methylation report and downloaded a free program from Promethease to analyze the raw data for various health issues, diseases, etc.
