Hi Members. My name is Jackie and I suffer from Lymphocytic Colitis. I have had what I figured was IBS for many, many years and have taken various medications over the years for it. I have had colonoscopies performed every 5 years for the last 15 years with no signs of polyps or anything...I always got a great report. On the last colonoscopy, the Dr. decided to take some biopsies since I have complained about the frequent diarrhea and the results were lymphocytic colitis. At this time, the diarrhea is out of control! I have to find a bathroom fast and of course, all that comes out is stool that is nothing but water and exploding gas on top. I must go at least 15+ times a day and night combined. I have also had a severely stuffed up nose for the past couple of months too with sneezing., which I have never had allergies so am relating it to the colitis. I have been doing the Low Fodmap diet in hopes that this would solve the problem but it doesn't seem to be helping much. I finally googled "are there any books on microscopic colitis" and up came the book by Wayne Perksy. I have ordered it (it should be here early next week) and then joined his forum. I am quite hopeful that this forum and Wayne's book will help me.

hi there Jackie
welcome to the group, and sympathies that you had to find us
most here can relate to your watery D, that comes with lots of urgency.. make life very difficult
along with Wayne's book that you are already ordered, we have a guidelines to recovery section with suggested eating plan etc.
please do some reading in this area http://perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=79
also - another good area to read and learn is the members success stories area, here you will see what others have done, how long it took for the watery D to go away! http://perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=71
take your time to read and digest (pun intended) the information and discussions here. It can be overwhelming at first, but with time it wont be so overwhelming ...
happy healing

Hi Jackie,
Welcome to our Internet family. Your symptoms are very typical, so we all understand what you are dealing with. Many of us have been "diagnosed with IBS initially, because a colonoscopy without biopsies results in a diagnosis of IBS by default. Your "stuffy nose" symptom suggests that you may have a histamine buildup or mast cell activation disorder (MCAD) associated with your lymphocytic colitis (LC). Here are links to some short articles to help you decide if mast cells (or excess histamine) might be a problem for you.
What are mast cells?
How are mast cells associated with microscopic colitis?
How do I know if mast cells are causing problems for me?
How are mast cell issues treated?
Again, welcome aboard and please feel free to ask anything.
Tex

Welcome Jackie,
I'm just following this post along...as your story has started out identical to mine although I didn't have 3 colonoscopies before I had a Dx of Lymphocytic Colitis. But I have suffered from my LC since 2007.
It's going to take some time and patience but you WILL heal and have a New Normal life once again
Cheers

Welcome Jackie....and sorry you had to find us!
I unfortunately relate very well to your bathroom issues....I know where every bathroom is in a 10 mile radius from my house and have used every one ! I had a terrible experience on Sunday… I actually had to pull behind a CVS pharmacy, jump into the back of my car and go to the bathroom in a bag all because there was traffic and I couldn't make it anywhere ......I was supposed to meet my husband for lunch but had to go home…I was so humiliated and upset I cried off and on all day… A small pity party for myself LOL
That might have been TMI, but just about everyone on here is or was at some point in the same situation, and Tex , Gabes and others will help you figure some stuff out!!!
They are great at answering anything....don't be shy!!!
Good luck to you!!

Hi All. Thanks for the warm welcome. I did receive Wayne's book in the mail Friday and have skipped through it numerous times. I can particularly relate to the story Wayne tells of trying the Gluten Free Oatmeal after being in remission for 4 years. I have been having Gluten Free Oatmeal for breakfast every morning for months now...figuring the Gluten Free was good to have as well as the oatmeal!! I have cut it out the last couple of days and already I am somewhat back to normal.
I am feeling overwhelmed on this forum as there are so many posts to look at. Could someone direct me to some sort of menu people follow for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks? I realize everyone will react different but personally, I like to follow a guideline of menus for each eating time and see what works for me. I am the type of person that I have no problem eating the same thing every day. Any and all advice is welcome :-)

Hi Jackie,
Yes, most "experts" claim that gluten-free oatmeal is safe for anyone sensitive to gluten, but most "experts" are wrong on that claim. Their thinking is too simplistic.
Here is a link to a collection of previous posts about meal suggestions:
http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=53
and here is a link to a collection of recipes. Dee is a professional chef, so if you look at the posts made by her, they are for tasty recipes that are free of gluten, dairy, and soy (unless stated otherwise). The recipes posted by others may or may not be free of every one of those allergens.

Jackie, Welcome from another rather new member with LC.
My advice is to, if possible, do the stool testing from Enterolab, the A1 and C1 panels so that you know what you can and can't eat. The lab is in Texas. Until I did that, I was doing myself harm by eating things I should have been avoiding. The other thing is to stick with the Stage One Diet. Make your own bone broth if you feel like it. I make a big batch and freeze it and have a little every day. Read up about magnesium and Vitamin D and then the B vitamins. The liquid ReMag is what I take to avoid a magnesium that can be a laxative. Everyone is a little different in what they take.
Right now I feel like singing What A Fool Am I. I had had a few days of Normals and decided to try different things. Stupidly, I didn't limit it to one new food and yesterday I was back to diarrhea. Now I don't know which food set it off so I'm at base camp again. At least I now know what to do now.
Lou Ann, I appreciated your honest story about driving behind CVS. When I hear member's stories of upset and stories of success, it helps me know how human we all are. It keeps me going. What a wonderful group this is!
Jackie, hang in. You will find your way.

eating plan suggestion:
meals based on home made bone broth made with safe ingredients - soups, stews using safe protein and 2-3 safe vegetables. soups and stews work because; -
- well cooked - makes it easier to digest
- small amount of ingredients suits MC healing
- bland - only use salt for flavouring
meats such as lamb on the bone makes great bone broth and lamb settles well for most people.
using a slow cooker to cook meat pieces on the bone with 2-3 safe vegetables - if cooking for family, take your serving out (so it is bland) then add other flavours ingredients to suit reset of household.
roasting meat on the bone with safe vegetables
I do a cook up on the weekend of stew (home made bone broth, ground lamb and 3 safe veges) and then freeze this into day portions. each night take portion out and reheat this for breakfast. Having a good serve of protein and carb first up helps me have energy and focus for the day.
dinner is roasted or boiled veges with safe protein
when I do roasted veges I make big dish of them, and then reheat the leftovers with other proteins for meals the day after.
hope this helps.
