Good GF breads

Post by maestraz »

Hi folks,
I haven't posted in quite a while, but thought I would share about a couple good GF breads I have had recently.

For those of you with access to Kroger Supermarkets, I had a very good Kroger brand GF bread while traveling this winter.

And Canyon Bakehouse has a new line of breads called Heritage Style that I like quite a lot.

Additionally, Whole Foods has GF Angel Food cake that is not too bad. Not as light and fluffy as I'd like, but that goes with GF.

Lots of new folks on here! I hope you all find the help you need, as I did at the beginning of my LC journey.

Thanks Suze. I'm always looking for a decent bread. Is the Whole Foods angel food a mix or already baked? We have a family favorite chocolate angel food cake that has cocoa added. I didn't know it but the last GF mix I bought was just the flour/sugar mixture. I still had to beat the dozen egg whites and thought how dumb that was. It's just as easy to make it from scratch.

Hi Deb,
The angel food cake at Whole Foods is already baked.
Also, while I have seen the "regular" Canyon Bakehouse breads at other places, I have only found the Heritage Style ones at Whole Foods. You can also order their breads online.

I had read about the Kroger one, but have been unable to find it and I thought when I looked it up, it had been discontinued. I just checked again, and according to what I read, it's been discontinued. Bummer!

HI Suze...

Another great bread I've found and it is available in 5 countries it appears.... I can eat this one without toasting it, even when it has been in the refrigerator!

I finally found some at a King Sooper's near to me.............must be popular.........they were about out...............will give it a whirl............since my eye surgery, the bread I had been eating (which has oats in it and never bothered me before) has been causing me distress (at least I think that's what it is).......plan to eliminate some other things and add back slowly to try to get a handle on it..............sure hope I don't have to nave any anesthesia again anytime soon..........it sure turned me inside out!

Am anxious to give this a try...........the bagels looked great, but I just got the white bread to try today..............

Trader Joe's own brand multi-grain is good, better than most.

I got tired of making my own GF bread and finally found a brand I like. Sami's Millet and Flax is my favorite. It can't be advertised as gluten free because it is made in a facility that also makes other bakery items that include gluten. In the year or more that I've been eating it, I've never had a bad reaction. I tried the Trader Joe's, tastes good but it stuck to my teeth. I'm also dealing with Sjogren's and that could be causing the problem with the Trader Joe's bread.

In my Gluten Free & More magazine this month, it has a section with bread, price, allergy info, ingredients, and how it's available....really helpful.

I just got it in the mail. I tried to take a picture, but it's spread onto 2 pages....
