Mornin' Shirley!
It's good to see you here! I am wondering what you are doing with regard to diet just now? I recall that you were moving in the paleo direction but had to put it on the back burner for some very valid reasons. You seem very interested in, knowledgeable about, and supportive of the paleo diet, and I always enjoy your comments.
Love,
Nosy Polly

Hi Polly,
I've been waiting to add to my Journal until I can report something good.
Not happy with myself AT ALL since last fall.
Honestly, I doubt I'll make a lot of progress until my hubby leaves for Pa. I have almost no willpower it seems, and his brother is always inviting us over for a meal which is hard to resist. And then I have to reciprocate at least once in a while and I want them to be happy with the meal so I make the old tried and true things for them. Also, there is a tendency to eat out more down here.
Once Bill leaves, I plan to get rid of any tempting stuff left around here and go whole hog again on the Paleo. I'm convinced that is the way for me. Perhaps I'll be feeling so good by the end of summer that I'll have more willpower.
I haven't given up and I want to learn all I can. Thanks for asking.
Love, Shirley

Oh, Shirley -
Don't beat yourself up. I think you have plenty of will power you may just have forgotten how to access it LOL!!
You know, it is difficult to be a paleo person when in a relationship such as your marriage; you've been married to Bill (isn't it Bill?) for many years now and it is difficult to break patterns and habits that the two of you have together. You may think that Bill will think less of you or become angry or sad or otherwise react emotionally when/if you choose to eat differently from him - he might be making you feel guilty if you pay too much attention to yourself in regard to your meals and eating habits. Food is not just food, is it? It's an entire lifestyle that has to or is going to change when one decides to eat paleo - but it is a process that you have already initiated and Bill is probably more capable of adjusting to it than you imagine. Perhaps he would find it interesting to some extent? I don't know - I just hope you will keep pursuing your goals and figure out a way to do it while keeping your marriage strong and supportive. I know you will find your ways if you keep looking and trying - all of a sudden you will find that you have made some small changes that have become a permanent part of your new lifestyle. Try to celebrate those small steps while looking for an opening to make your next move.

Karen

I agree. It is difficult enough changing one's own eating habits without worrying about others. Scott is very supportive, but I do feel guilty at times that I rarely make some of our old favorites. Actually, sometimes I do make some of the old favorite dishes for him. But, of course, this means spending a lot more time in the kitchen than I'd like to. LOL! For some meals, I end up fixing 3 different options - for Scott, Derek, and me. I often think how much easier it would be to shop and cook if it were just me.
Shirley, thanks for the update. You will get there one of these days. As we always say, it's a process, right?
