Why, thank you all kindly for the birthday wishes! I do not post regularly but I do try to lurk, and of course, answer any emails I receive. You all are the BEST.....it warms my heart to see folks going out of their way to share info with a newbie, not to mention the wonderful empathy and caring that has always been a hallmark of this very special website. Love you all,

Polly

Linda,

Doing well, thank you. Am currently on the cholestyramine. It's the funniest thing, though, that I can go weeks without needing any at all and then I will need it again for a short time and then taper quickly. I have been lately trying a whole foods/mostly plant-based diet with good success. NOTE....I am not recommending this diet, especially for newbies. It is very heavy on fiber (tons of fruits, veggies, beans, nut butter, etc.) I am probably eating about 50 gms of fiber per day, which is apparently still less than what most paleo people ate. Keep in mind that it has now been 20 years since my MC diagnosis and that I spent many, if not most, of those years eating very low fiber and lots of animal protein. More recently, I was concerned about such low fiber for longterm health, especially since fiber is critical to promoting good gut bacteria (is an excellent prebiotic). I was also concerned about eating such a limited diet.

I am still eating occasional seafood and eggs but no other animal protein. I do not eat any gluten, dairy, or soy, and I pretty much avoid non-gluten grains as well. No processed foods or sugar for the most part. On my most recent lab tests, my hemoglobin A1c had decreased quite a bit (it was never a major problem anyway) and my vitamin D level was 75 (I supplement with 3000 IUs of D3/day). I take sublingual B-12 too but do not need any magnesium since I am able to eat at least 3-5 servings of leafy and cruciferous greens a day now.

I have tons of energy and my blood pressure is so low now that my internist has discontinued the BP medicine I had been taking for the last 3 years (atenolol). It averages 105/65 without any med. now. I still walk at least 2 mi. 3-4 times a week and lift wts. a 2-3 times a week. And try to meditate, although I need to be more regular with it.

Once again.....I am not recommending this diet.....but it may be encouraging for others who might like to eat this way to know that it may be possible one day.

How are you doing?

Polly

Hi Polly,
What you describe is the Plant Paradox regimen to a T, and there were many testimonials and stories of success along with good health.

You are right though, this is NOT a protocol to follow when newly trying to heal the gut....but it does sound like a good plan a few years down the road

So glad to hear you are experiencing improved health
Hugs
