MC is no fun. It has taken very diligent work on my part to get things under control and get back a lot of my life. Still I am grateful I have a problem that has a solution, even though it hasn't been a perfect one. My 15 year old granddaughter has been diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer that primarily effects children. She has already had emergency surgery to remove a tumor from her upper spine. Now she faces a year of brutal chemo therapy, several days in hospital, every 2-3 weeks. The prognosis is good but far from great, 60-70% survival they say. She has already had 3 rounds of Chemo. She has a great positive attitude but still it is so hard. This is the hardest thing I have ever faced yet I know it is not about me. It is about her and my son and her mother and her stepmother.

It is hard to watch others, no matter what the age deal with those sort of challenges
I will comment, that in current day people receiving treatment for cancer get way more support/empathy from medical professionals, supporting practitioners compared to those with Auto immune issues that flare.
additionally in situations such as welfare / insurance payments etc the process /interactions are way easier for patients with cancer compared to those with Auto Immune issues
I don't wish cancer on anyone please don't misinterpret my comment - albeit I know that my wellness journey - the interactions with various health professionals, insurance companies, employers, etc would have been way easier if I had cancer versus the casemix of auto immune issues /nutrient imbalances etc I have.
medical professionals, insurance companies, govt agencies etc do not acknowledge the hard work that people like us do in regards to major diet changes, lifestyle changes, all the planning for shopping, meal preparation, and activities; the research and 'self management' we do ourselves as it is not provided by the current health system.

Here's the reality. My 15 year old granddaughter might die from a virulent disease. It has killed many children. Her mother has to take a one year leave from her teaching job to care for her daughter. She will get no salary plus she will now have to pay the entire cost of her health insurance. This health insurance doesn't come close to paying for all the medical bills that she will have. She still has to pay her mortgage and all her other bills. True, my granddaughter and family get a lot of empathy and support from the medical community and from all their friends and family. They are all quite wonderful people. I have had to figure out my own solutions to my own issue without any help from the medical profession, still I would take my situation over my granddaughter's any day plus she is only 15 years old. That does make a difference in my book. My heart aches for my granddaughter. My heart aches for my son. My heart aches for my former daughter-in-law. This all gives me perspective and allows me to be grateful for all that I have in my life.

Oh Jean, I am so sorry to hear this. I totally understand how you feel. It is so hard to watch someone you love suffer, especially a child. The financial concerns add to the heavy burden. I will pray for your granddaughter and your entire family. Hugs to you.
