A Plane Without a Working Toilet
We were on a short flight today. After we were boarded the flight attendant made an announcement that the toilet wasn't working! That wasn't an issue for me, but I was thinking of many of my friends on this site who would have a major issue with that! The flight was around 25 minutes but we were boarded for 25 minutes before take-off. We had a very nice trip and I didn't have any food issues. We ate out for dinner every evening which is scary but most of the restaurants had "gluten friendly" menus. I ordered everything plain and took 2 GlutenEase before eating and all was well.

Marcia,
Thanks for the update! I haven't traveled anywhere for 4 years and in October we are going to San Diego. I'm basically forcing myself to do this since I don't want my bubble to get tighter and smaller Whats funny is, as soon as I would hear the announcement that the toilet was out of order, I would immediately poop my pants from nerves.
I have some researching to do. I looked on line for an allergy card I can just give waiters instead of explaining all of it everytime. Not a lot of luck. Once I find out where we are staying I can call the hotel and send some of my stuff in the mail.....although I hope San Diego is more up to date with food allergies than Des Moines Iowa!

Vanessa,
Print your own card. That way it can be absolutely correct and up-to-date.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Vanessa, Eating out has gotten easier in the four years since my diagnosis. For breakfast I took almond milk & hemp protein powder and then had a mid-morning banana. Lunch was canned Wild Plant salmon that I took along and I purchased asparagus and Canadian bacon at a local Wal-Mart. I had the almond milk in my luggage because I didn't know that we would be so close to a Wal-Mart (individual cartons duct taped closed in a plastic container). I also took Epic Bars, Nick's Sticks and Oskri coconut bars that I could carry with me. I was surprised at how good the restaurants were when I ordered (we were in KY). One server came back to ask me if they should clean the grill before they made my steak. I wanted to jump up and hug her! When we ate at the Olive Garden I had grilled shrimp, steamed broccoli and roasted potatoes. I don't eat white potatoes very often but I was fine. The shrimp is an add-on to pasta, but that's what I ordered as my main course. Like you, I am determined to do all that I can do in spite of this disease. I'm sure you'll be fine and please share the details of your trip when you go!

Thank You Tex,
I'll make my own and get them laminated so it looks extra serious! That example is perfect.
And Marcia, I never thought about packing almond milk in my luggage. Very helpful.
Now I just have to find out how much mag liquid I can take with me on the plane to use for anxiety.....never liked plane rides to begin with. I should probably just lotion up with it so if the toilet isn't working I'll be good.

I have often thought that it would be so nice to have some safe, tasty meals while on vacation that I didn't have to make myself. At restaurants while on vacation, I get real tired of my safe standard order of a hamburger patty with lettuce, tomatoes and onion with fruit if they have it. And breakfast and lunch gets so boring too. Well, I have found a shipped food delivery service that can work for most food sensitivities. You can pack the meals in a cooler for on the road, or you can even arrange to have food shopped to a hotel or vacation rental. Many of the meals are gluten, dairy, soy and egg free, and all of the meals have the ingredients listed. They cook with "real food" and no additives like "natural flavorings". The meals are fresh, not frozen. It is called "Fresh-n-Lean", and has lots of different options for breakfast and lunch as well as dinner. It's not cheap, as most dinner selections are in the $12 range, but it's hard to eat for less than that in a restaurant. And what the heck, you are on vacation and deserve a good, safe meal! https://orders.freshnlean.com/v3/alacarte
Occasionally I have good luck at a restaurant. I even had a spectacular meal at a restaurant in Sedona, AZ that involved the best pork chop I have ever had in my life! When I told my sensitivities to the waitress, she said that she also was soy sensitive, that the chef made everything from scratch with as much organic as possible and that he would know the ingredients. This 1 1/2 inch thick chop was smoked, then grilled and finally finished with a yummy mango glaze. It was so tender and flavorful, I was in heaven. And it came with rosemary roasted potatoes and grilled asparagus, so an absolutely outstanding meal. Most people don't understand why I got so excited about this meal, but you guys do!

there are lots of good tips in the travel section
http://perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=62
easy to take own safe foods/staples with you. or order safe ingredients online and get them delivered to accommodation place so you have safe items upon arrival.
I have used a small cooler bag of premade meals and checked it in as part of my luggage when doing air travel. Pre made soups and stews frozen will last at least 8 hours and still be semi frozen upon arrival.
hope this helps..

I have a faint memory of skinny jeans and nice underwear from over 7 years ago!! ha ha
I haven't worried about diapers for travelling as if there is an issue, it is not large quantities of poop for me (does that make sense) I just put a good absorbent liner on, and my handbag always has spare undies and spare liners should something go astray...
the other thing I have done when we are at the car shows and there is higher risk of queuing for loo's, I do a 'double undie' set up. undies with liner, then put on another pair of undies with liner. This is protective enough for any of the situations I would incur if I had to wait extended period for a loo

That's really scary.........no working toilet...........when the toilets at school aren't working, we can't have school...........interesting that they can do that.............normally, it wouldn't be a problem for me (I hate airplane toilets and try to always go before taking off in the airport and once I get off), but right now, if I had to fly, it could be a problem!
