Mysterious Meat Allergy/Ticks

Post by skp »

I listened to an NRP broadcast on The State of Things. It's very interesting and while it hopefully won't affect us, it could. The meat allergy was finally linked to ticks in the US southeast but was also reported in Australia, Sweden and I can't remember where else. Fortunately, at this point it is believed the allergy doesn't last a lifetime.

Here is link and if you care to, you can listen to it.

Hi Susan,

That's no longer news. It has come up here numerous times in the past. It's called mammalian meat allergy and when I search the archives I come up with at least 11 threads on the topic, dating back as far as 2012. We have at least one member who has the allergy. Check some of the previous threads. Some cover it in detail.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

It's surprising that it isn't more widespread that it is because the vectors (ticks that carry it) seem to be in a lot of places. And yes, becoming a victim can be disastrous.
