Arthritis and shoulder pain
My MC is causing shoulder, pain in my right shoulder. Drs say I have arthritis, which is common for MCers, so I understand. But when I flared up again, my shoulder pain pretty much stopped, now the shoulder pain is back. I Didn't really understand the shoulder pain, when the 1st time I went into remission, but I do now. Would rather have shoulder pain, than a bad digestive system.
Hi Lando,
Funny you should post. I have some left shoulder issues and also right knee issues. My experience mirrors yours. My hypothesis is right knee pain is low level inflammation. Gut issues is high level inflammation. I generally don't have both concurrently.
Literally just 5 minutes ago I was doing my shoulder exercises. http://orthoinfo.org/topic.cfm?topic=A00672 I find they help.
When I get glutened, sugared or dairied I get really extreme pain in right knee. I had been eating Gigis GF cupcakes. Problem is they are not made in a dedicated GF bakery. I think I got glutened and sugared in the last batch--excruciating pain in the right knee. I've eliminated Gigis GF cupcakes for obvious reasons and the pain was so severe 10 days ago I've been eating the antiinflammatory foods/supplements: ginger tea (only ginger in tea bag then I add some peeled ginger to the cup that steeps but I don't drink the ginger chunks), about 3-4 cherries after every meal, 1 tsp fish oil per day, glucosomine/chondrointon, and UC-11 and collagen. Ten days ago knee pain was a 10, today it is a 0, left shoulder still has some stiffness thus the exercises. Flax oil is also recommended but I can't tolerate that. I think the antiinflammatory foods/supplements have helped.

Arthritis and shoulder pain
I agree that anti-inflammatory foods can help a lot. For at least 3 years I had moderate plantar fasciitis in my right foot, and also some right knee swelling and soreness. I tried orthotics and exercise, but didn't seem to help much. Then last November, my husband had some heart issues with several stents inserted. He wanted to modify his diet to be more heart healthy. I thought that we already were most of the way there, as he already was low-carb and lots of fresh fruits and veggies. But we were eating a lot of red meat, and very little fish. So we decided to add fish, especially oily fish, to our diet. My goal was at least 3 dinners and 3 lunches containing fish each week. The fish was mostly wild-caught sockeye salmon with some other types of wild-caught white fish for variety. I wasn't paying strict attention, but after a few months, I noticed that my plantar fasciitis was gone and my knee wasn't sore anymore. Now 8 months later, I still feel fine. I had been taking fish oil supplements, but the fish oil didn't have the affect that the actual oily fish did.
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time………Thomas Edison
Hi Lando and others,
I have simular problems with ostheoartritis: my hands, especially left, my right knee and my right shoulder, also toes and ankles. Shoulder problems specially in the night and knee problems directly if I have eaten something 'wrong'. I think Brandy is right with the low and high level infammation. Since I follow my strict diet I hardly have any problems with my gut. But it is especially my right knee that warns me if something is wrong.
I have the idea that my daily bone broth helps a lot. I eat much fat fish and chicken.
I also eat regularly lamb. Rosie's experiences about the meat are interesting and a good guideline for me to keep in mind not to eat to much lamb.
I wonder how your experiences are with alcohol and arthritis.
I will post seperately about that issue.
