"The Taste of Magnesium"
Holy crap - that stuff is NASTY! I just received my Remag and carefully put 1/2 teaspoon into a 16 ounce bottle of water. Then I added a few drops of lemon juice and tasted it. YUUUUCKKK! I can't imagine how potent that must be taken straight out of the bottle if a few drops did this to 16 ounces of water!
And I wonder - is that why pre-colonoscopy prep drinks taste so bad? Are they full of magnesium? Would make sense!

Diagnosed November 2004, Used Asacol and Lialda, sometimes worked, sometimes made it worse. Entocort always works but hate it. Remission only lasts 3-6 months and then back on Entocort. Enterolab test July 2017, now gluten free. Time will tell!

did you follow the instructions that come with the product? ie putting salt in the water?
for now I would be cautious of using lemon juice, as citrus based items can be inflammatory.
Also reduce the dose to 1/4 teaspoon or less if you are worried about the body /gut reacting to oral magnesium. (as per Tex and my suggestions in the other thread the other day)

After reading many comments on the taste of ReMag I have to conclude that it's just nasty-tasting stuff. Most magnesium compounds don't taste that bad. It's the sodium in cleanout solutions that taste so nauseating to me.

I can still only handle about 1/4 teaspoon no matter how hard I try to increase it So I use other methods of transportation....external, and KAL 200mg gel tabs...those seem to give me the biggest bang for my buck and I can do those at any time.
So ya...ReMag is great stuff....but still finding it hard to do the dose that helps us the most.

Hi all. Thanks for the replies.
Yes, I read the instructions and they say nothing about salt. They actually indicate you can take the dose all at once "OR" add it to water and sip. Can you imagine taking it straight?!?!?!
Apparently even mag citrate isn't "diarrhea safe" because boy have I been in trouble for the past hour. I only consumed half the bottle of water so at the most I got 1/4 teaspoon. I doubt it was the lemon juice, that was only two drops so in half a bottle of water, one drop.
My husband is heading to the store to pick up some items for me and I was going to ask him to get some water flavoring packets but maybe I shouldn't even take Remag yet. I may just be setting myself back. I haven't even gone back to work yet so I need to start healing.

Yes magnesium citrate in larger doses is a laxative. Use Magnesium glycinate if you want to use an oral tablet. But ReMag isn't really magnesim citrate, it's a supercharged version. As I've tried to point out to most people considering using it, it's potent stuff. I'm not even sure it can be tolerated by most people who are in a flare.

Sue, I'm of the group that doesn't mind the taste of ReMag but I always add Himalayan Salt. I don't know where I saw that in the instructions but it is supposed to be important. I think the salt helps the taste and I actually look forward to it. I am using a tsp but have used more than that previously. Again, ReMag can also be used topically.
I'll bet that's (the suggestion to add some Himalayan Salt) on Dr. Dean's website in one of her blogs.

I use magnesium chloride in bottles of 250 ml with 30% MgC12, and I use it both internally (1 teaspoon in a half glass of water) and on my skin. Being an impatient person, I never bother to spray it on my skin, I just remove the spray-cork and pour a handful of the oil in my palm and rub it onto the parts of my body with thin skin, that is inside of arms, inside of thighs, and also on my legs and my feet (but the tiles on my bathroom floor get very slippery). No bad taste in the liquid form, and no itching of the skin.
When my back hurts, I pour a handful of magnesium oil and rub it onto my lower back. It makes the pain go away, and I sleep like a baby afterwards :-)

I mis-spoke... ReMag is magnesium chloride, not citrate. I think I need to stay away from it.... wonder if I should put it in the fridge so I can use it in a few months when things are better or if it will be ok in a dark cabinet.
It's ok to use ReMag topically? If so, that would be a great solution. I wouldn't have wasted the purchase I just made and maybe it won't tear up my guts (and I wouldn't have to taste it!).
I just can't fathom the thought of adding salt to the water and ReMag.... then I'd be drinking SALTY pungent water! Maybe it's an acquired taste.

That's what I thought ReMag was made from, but it's no longer magnesium chloride after processing. Magnesium chloride is what sea water is made from, isn't it. Sea water is not as concentrated, except for the Dead Sea.

No idea, Tex.... I'm brand new to this magnesium thing. Trying to do what I heard would help but I think I better cool it with the oral for now. If anyone else has used ReMag topically I'd love to hear about it.tex wrote:That's what I thought ReMag was made from, but it's no longer magnesium chloride after processing. I'm with Deb. I like the taste of it....but I always add the pink salt. Put your ReMag in a spray bottle and use topically so it doesn't go to waste. I could get used to any taste if I knew it was helping....and I saw benefits almost immediately with the ReMag so it was easy for me. Dr. Carolyn Dean's website has exact instructions for use when first starting. I'm surprised your bottle didn't come with a blue piece of paper with instructions on it.....
