Frustrated with GI...no Enterolabs/no LDN

Post by ManiacalFairy »

So I saw my GI for the first time in a couple of years due to my recent flare. I gave her printed info from Enterolabs because I want to get tested for food sensitivities and my understanding is that insurance is more likely to reimburse if ordered by an MD...she said she'd give the info to her nurse and have her look at it and let me know 🙄 Then I asked about LDN and was immediately shot down. She said her experience was that every patient who came in to see her and was already taking it needed to get off of it. She said it was great for pain and maybe sometimes helped with diarrhea (but often caused it as well) but had no use in the treatment of IBD. I didn't even push it because it was obvious that she had her mind made up and wouldn't listen. Such a huge waste of my $85 copay.

Oh, and she said if my flare starts up again after stopping to budesonide in 3 months that she'd recommend another colonoscopy to see if I've progressed to ulcerative colitis...can't say I've ever heard of this being a concern.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my PCP visit tomorrow will go better!

Hhhmmmm, colonoscopies are not without risk. Think Joan Rivers.

Yup, I don't think any of us are concerned about getting UC.

Good luck tomorrow.

PCP may be able to get you Enterolabs and/or LDN.

I agree with Brandy. PCPs are generally much more sympathetic and considerate toward patients. Compared with GI docs, they're more like humans.

GI Docs are almost always more than willing to do colonoscopies, because they're well-paid for those procedures.

if you contact the LDN Support groups they have a list of doctors etc that are more proactive about prescribing LDN.

Thanks for the input! I do have an incredible PCP who is very open to more alternative treatments...that's why I still go to her even after moving almost an hour away from her practice. As for the LDN, I did find the name of a GI who does prescribe it who's not much further away than my PCP...I'll probably try to get an appointment with him for ongoing GI care. I'm thankful for living so close to a community of at least some progressive thinkers!

Joan Rivers had an Endoscopy. She died because of lack of oxygen for too long while they were looking down her throat.

Well, better luck with my PCP. She is going to go online and try to order the Enterolabs panels I want. And she knows the owner of the compounding pharmacy I've contacted and is going to talk to her about LDN dosing and use and will prescribe it if she doesn't find anything contradictory with it. She is completely supportive of my approach to dealing with the MC.
