Time for a new Potty People Logo?

Post by Sue777 »

Hi Gang.
I was going to comically suggest that we change the logo because I log on here often from the office and the first thing that is obvious and apparent is the sad green person sitting on a toilet. I've had to close the screen real fast when someone walk near my computer but I'm sure some people have seen it and wondered what the hell I'm looking at.

But now I'm thinking that maybe we DO need to revise that: the logo is of a depressed, defeated-looking person stuck on a toilet, whereas the message underneath is "You CAN get your life back" so maybe we need a logo that is more positive, upbeat, less depressing?

Just a thought.

Describing the disease eloquently in an icon is no mean feat — it's a depressing disease, any way you look at it. But I'm certainly open to suggestions. The current icon was suggested (and designed) by Jean when the forum originated about 13 years ago.

Consider Rebrand to the Microscopic Colitis Foundation logo. Keep the hyperlink in the middle of the page. Consider additional hyperlink to the foundation. I think the more links to the foundation the better.

OK, This kind of makes the header unbalanced, but whadda ya think? That may not matter. This is sizing the icon at the same height as the old one. It's oblong, so if I size it at the same width, it's going to be short. I haven't added the link yet, no point in doing that until we have a consensus on the icon.

This forum doesn't own the right to display that logo, but since I own both domains, I think I can get away with it.

Tex

P. S. Should we trash the "You can get your life back"? Or change the color?

I would like to see the "you can get your life back" in a dark blue. ( My opinion only ) I was wondering if there are t shirts available with the Microscopic Colitis Foundation logo? I don't have a suggestion for a new logo for the forum but I do agree with getting a different one.

I like the change........ I like having a slogan. How about changing the color to the matching blue, putting the slogan in italics, and underlining the "can", something like this:

"You can get your life back"

I have to chime in....I have always liked the "potty" logo because it makes me laugh. I don't see it as depressing. But I understand that sometimes changes are good and won't go against the majority on this.

I'm with you Laura, I liked the old one. But I have a private office so I've never thought about someone seeing The Thinking Man on the toilet. The old one made me laugh too!

I LOVE the updated Logo!!

Makes the page so professional looking (even if the Potty People picture did make me chuckle - and I didn't realize it went anywhere until I hovered my mouse over it and decided to click on it one day)

Maybe the word can could be highlighted and share the link that goes to the forum directly also....that way it would pull someones attention there instead of it being a mystery that there is another page where EVERYTHING is at

It's taking shape nicely! Some further thoughts......

1. Shrink the logo a bit, because right now it bumps up next to the big Forum title with its scroll and it just looks too crowded and busy to my eye.

2. Can you put a box around it, and/or lightly colored background to further visually separate the Foundation logo from the Forum info?

Yet another thought! The top of the page is getting pretty congested. How about moving Wayne's book underneath the Forum banner. If the info on ordering it is put next to the cover picture instead of underneath, it would look more balanced. It could also be made somewhat larger and more prominent now that it wouldn't have to fit in the small space it now occupies. The book is a treasure, and so helpful to newbies. That way, just the Foundation logo and Forum banner would be on top.

Also, I love the Potty Person, and enjoyed a chuckle as well. How about making him our "mascot" and putting him at the bottom of the page, along with the other info, like the Amazon Smile, and world map. That way, he won't be at the top for those of us who would like to be a bit more "discrete" while at work. There could even be a short explanation of who he is and how he came to be our mascot.

I will miss that little guy/gal terribly  . When I first saw the icon 7 years ago, I knew I had found a home:). It gave me a good laugh and has continued to provide chuckles through the years. I would vote to keep it, but will reluctantly accept a change:).

Love,

I like the potty person too! Maybe you can put it somewhere else. Gotta have a laugh somewhere on the site.

I love the "You can get your life back" and maybe a logo that symbolizes "you are not alone". Those are the two things that always inspire me when I log on..... that we CAN get our lives back and there are people here who totally understand our struggle. Even when I come onto the site feeling defeated and depressed, I leaving feeling less alone and with renewed hope.

I cut and pasted a bunch of logos while I was at the office today but forgot to e-mail them to myself at home.... sorry. And thanks for all considering the changes. If the majority want to keep the green, sad potty manby all means keep him - I'll just be more careful logging on during the day. But I do like the more "professional" look - just my 2 cents.

Logo change

Post by sunny »

Late to this discussion...sometimes change is good...keeping favorite parts & changing or just just enhancing areas that don't illustrate the mission...for me the important pieces are : I CAN get my life back....there others who understand & empathize, encourage, enlighten....
The potty pix epitomizes the problem...the book title shows the help...both important.
FWIW....
open to keep or change
