Getting enough calories with the recovery plan? And kombucha

Hi! I have started the recovery diet, and feel like I am not getting enough food. I am having mostly the soup (with chicken and some cooked vegetables), but find that I am hungry. Any thoughts on how to get more calories?

Also, is kombucha helpful with MC? Or hurtful?

Hi Kim.

That's a common question, along with, "How can I gain weight while on the GF diet?"

Weight gain depends primarily on metabolism, nutrient absorption and calorie intake. When MC is active, obviously metabolism and nutrient absorption are compromised. So we have to make up for that by eating more of our safe foods. If you feel that chicken and certain vegetables are safe, you can double your calorie intake if you eat twice as much. I know that sounds like poor advice, but it's true. Eat more often during the day. Eat smaller meals if you have to, but if you keep eating until you're satiated and then eat a little more, you can increase your calorie intake. Snacking is not an unhealthy practice. It's only unhealthy in the minds of the self-appointed food police, and they very likely don't have MC.

I still eat a very, very limited diet. I don't even eat any vegetables or fruit (except potatoes and bananas). But I eat a lot (of the same foods).

Kombucha (as all fermented foods) is a great source of probiotics, however it is also high histamine, so bothers many here.
