Pistachios, anyone?
Hi there.
I know the Enterolab results test for almonds, walnuts, and cashews, and I know lots of people have a peanut allergy or sensitivity, but why are pistachios never discussed?
I LOVE pistachios and when I eat a moderate amount I don't seem to have any problems, but I don't want to keep eating them if they are delaying or hindering my healing.

Diagnosed November 2004, Used Asacol and Lialda, sometimes worked, sometimes made it worse. Entocort always works but hate it. Remission only lasts 3-6 months and then back on Entocort. Enterolab test July 2017, now gluten free. Time will tell!

Hmmmm, then I may be one of the lucky ones because I always seem to do BETTER with some healthy fiber. Broccoli especially lends to better BM's. It's never made sense to me, but eating lots of broccoli or eggplant usually produces an almost normal BM the next morning.

The main reason pistachios are not tested is probably because not many people eat them. IOW they're not ubiquitous (enough) to justify designing a test for them. At least that's what I would guess.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
You might have a point there, but I don't know anyone who doesn't love pistachios so I thought they were pretty much as common as the others. And I prefer them not only for the taste but because it slows me down (since they are in the shell) and it's not as easy to over-eat them.

Sue,
I have no problem with pistachios and like you, need that fiber from time to time. Also, even though I have a soy sensitivity, I seem to be okay with peanuts. A site on soy allergy said that peanuts, while legumes, are safe for those with soy allergy. Here is the site:

Any and all information and sharing is helpful, so thank you for sharing that. :)Deb wrote:Sue, my daughter was tested for nut allergies after having an anaphylactic reaction to a hazelnut. She was allergic to all nuts except pistachios, macadamias and cashews. Not sure that helps you with anything though. :)

Wow... just goes to show how individual our systems and our food sensitivities are. I can't eat peanuts but I can eat cashews and pistachios all night long.sonja wrote:Hi Sue,
