Symptoms?
Hi All, I have been in a flare for quite some time but occasionally experience more severe symptoms and I am wondering if anyone else has similar symptoms or knows what may cause them. My flares consist of WD many times per day, some fatigue but very little pain. Occasionally I will have what I call an episode. I don't believe that these episodes are caused by gluten because I have only experienced increased WD when I have accidentally consumed gluten. My episodes start with nausea and a tightness throughout my abdomen. It then progresses to battery acid D, alternating sweats and chills, projectile vomiting, extreme thirst, extreme fatigue, dizziness and usually a runny nose. The dizziness and fatigue are so severe that it is difficult to handle the other issues because I am nearly unable to stay upright. Luckily, I only experience this once every month or two. I don't think it is food poisoning because it never happens to other members of my family who ate the same food. I also don't think it is a virus because it just feels different. It usually passes after about 4 hours and a virus usually hangs on longer but is less severe. My GI thought that this could be gallbladder related but the tests she ran didn't show any gallbladder issues. I mentioned MAST cell issues to her, but I don't think she knows anything about that. Thanks for any info you may have about this, I would love to figure out what is causing it so I can avoid it in the future.
Hi Lucky,
I'm a male obviously but I had those same symptoms sometimes. I never could decide whether all of the symptoms were due to MC, or some of them were due to diverticulitis. Mine ended after I fine-tuned my diet.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Lucky,
Food for thought.....recently I've had quite a few of those symptoms and it ended up being a combo of high histamine that I'm not breaking down well at all and gut bacteria imbalance, so I am taking steps with a probiotic Dr Mercola.com 70 billion worth as it should help a Candida Albicans skin yeast issue due to the gut imbalance. I'm also taking a higher spread out dose of OTC antihistamine Zyrtec which has helped many of those symptoms already.
Plus Gabes is right hormones can exacerbate these symptoms as well...so some detective work is in order
Hope you feel better soon!

to link into Erica's reply. things like Magnesium and B6 are key for both histamine AND hormones..
your current symptoms could be hormones and/or histamine. coupled with that there are some foods or external items causing increased inflammation...
my suggestion is ;
ensure you are having good amounts of magnesium and P5P (active form of B6)
double check your eating and drink plan for any small hidden amounts of possible triggers
double check bathroom products /makeup etc for things like wheatgerm, oatmeal, excess Vit E (which is soy)
other external triggers that cause inflammation/deplete nutrients excess EMF, mold, chemicals, pollution etc.
are you getting at least 20 minutes in the sun each day?, are you doing relaxation activities every day? how is your sleep quality?

Tex, it seems that we have had a lot of common symptoms. I posted about some additional symptoms I have a while back (enlarged lymph nodes and spleen, lung nodules etc.). I am still being followed by a hematologist to make sure I don't have lymphoma and I know that you went through something similar when you were reacting also.
Erica, thanks for the suggestions. I have always had allergy/sinus issues so histamine is a potential issue for me. I take Allegra once per day but it may help to try Zyrtec again. I usually switch between those two medications every few months. I will make a note of the probiotic you are taking so that I can try it later. I very recently started taking something new and I want to see if it helps or hurts before adding anything else. I am trying a product called "Restore" which is supposed to help balance the gut.
Gabes, I use the topical form of magnesium which may not be enough. I have not found an oral form that I tolerate well. I get plenty of sunlight for now but that will change soon because I live in the Northern US. I will look into B6 because I don't normally take that. I am also sure that I need to be much more careful with my diet. I have had a difficult time cutting out dairy.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!

Wow, you just described the worst food reaction I've ever experienced. A few years ago on Thanksgiving, I decided to do a dairy challenge. So I ate a portion of a dish that had butter, cheese and milk in it . Well, I woke up at midnight, shaking like a leaf, with every one of the symptoms you described. The "attack" lasted until 6 in the morning. When it was finally over, I felt completely wrung out, like my body had been turned inside out. Needless to say, I have never knowingly touched dairy again. That night will be forever etched in my mind.
If your system is anything like mine, it might just be the dairy that's the culprit.
Love,
Kari
