New MCer - Question

Post by SamanthaB »

Hi all,

I'm glad to have found this site! My symptoms began Oct 2016 and I was diagnosed in January 2017 after a colonoscopy biopsy. The GI attributed my MC to Cymbalta which I had been taking for 2 years. So I stopped it and went back to a drug I had been on before for many years without incident. My symptoms did get better and I was somewhat "normal" again by June. However, 2 weeks ago my symptoms returned with a vengeance and now I'm back to square one with the usual abdominal cramps and massive diarrhea. Any ideas? Clearly it wasn't the Cymbalta that caused the MC like the GI thought. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar?

Thanks!

Hi Samantha,

Welcome to our Internet family. Here's one possibility to consider.

1. It was the Cymbalta, the first time.

2. You have now developed an intolerance for the drug you resumed taking when you stopped taking Cymbalta. If it's an SNRI or SSRI, it's very likely the problem.

I know you didn't come here looking for a solution for your depression, but please be advised that depression is a very common symptom of chronic magnesium deficiency. But as common as it is, most doctors pretend to be unaware of it because there's no money in prescribing magnesium. They would much rather prescribe an antidepressant and keep their drug reps happy. Magnesium supplementation is a very effective treatment in many/most cases of depression.

Again, welcome aboard and please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks Tex. I haven't thought about either of those possibilities. I'll continue to monitor my stomach situation and look into the magnesium too.

hi there SamiB
Tex has replied with pretty much what I would say

if you remove major triggers from your eating plan, like Gluten and Dairy, this will also assist your body's healing ability.
