In Remission and Wonder Why

Post by Hazelbird »

For the last few weeks I have been in remission......if there is such a thing with LC. My gut and BMs are more normal than they've been in years. And I don't know why!

I do not follow the diet recommended here (I'm not a meat eater), I don't take any drugs, and if I'm being honest, I haven't done all the reading and research I should have done. I just listened to my body.

I eat some dairy (Greek yogurt daily and cheese once a week), eggs, tofu, many fruits and veggies, lots of fibre, hemphearts, chia seeds, walnuts, almonds, even chickpeas and black beans. Lately, it doesn't matter what I eat (although I remain gluten-free), my BMs are normal with no pain, gas, anything. Why?!

The only factor I can determine might be having a positive effect is the lack of stress in my current living situation. I am content and at ease. Is this enough to make that big a difference? If so, I am amazed at the mind-body connection!

I know that this is not a permanent cure but I'm sure enjoying being normal while it lasts!

Hazel....my first thought was, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth!" Hopefully, someone with more knowledge will chime in with some ideas for you...

Thanks, Gabes. I'll try to do that without going crazy and eating too many off-LC-diet foods. It is tempting when meals have been restricted for some time.

Bottom line for me: no gluten ever and no tomato products.

Wishing the same improved health for everyone here!

Hazel,

There's a chance that if you continue to avoid gluten (so that you don't get leaky gut) you may be able to continue to eat most other foods without any problems. Good luck.

I'm also in a bizarre spontaneous remission from my LC. First one in 7 years! It hasn't been bad recently, just 2-3 D per day, but I clearly have some obvious dysbiosis going on (malodorous, sometimes orange), which I treat with probiotics with varying degrees of success. I should mention I'm also in a clinical trial of non-psychoactive THC for my skin rashes since February, and it's had the added benefit of calming the MC, and calming reactions to food, but never full remission. The only things that I can associate with this sudden change are:

Vacation in Cooperstown, NY where I ate fresh picked apples and rasberries non-stop, sometimes 4 apples/day with the peel on, plus lots of salads and watermelon. Normally this would go right though me, but instead I think I developed a tolerance, and now a NEED for insane amounts of fiber! If I don't eat a ton of fruit and veggies, I won't go to the bathroom now!

I stopped taking LDN for 4 days to try and force a "reset" since it's no longer helping my autoimmune skin rash. By day 2 I had perfect normans, sore throat and mild congestion. By day 4 I was a cranky, depressed mess, so I got back on and I'm back to my old normal (been on LDN since 2014). But the normans keep coming even though I'm back on the LDN.

I'm experimenting with not taking my probiotics, and it makes no difference now. Odor and consistency is normal, no matter what I eat or what I take! It's crazy!!

Maybe I'm battling a cold or Epstein Barr Virus reactivation, so immune system is busy elsewhere?

But sadly, the MC remission has no effect on the Dermatomyositis rashes. Makes no sense!!

Hey Zizzle,

I too found that I need more fiber and take psyllium seed powder daily plus a huge salad at lunch. Not to confuse newbies here. This is a no no when healing. However I was having WD to mud daily still and the fiber seemed to give me normans...plus the multiple minerals on board to aid in healing. Glad to know you are doing good! keep us updated on the THC. Always interested in that. My uncle was diagnosed in 2015 with Stage lV Colon CA with mets to lung and liver. He had one round of chemo and said screw this. I'll die in no time. So he went off to Colorado to obtain his "meds" and is still kicking. I know he does the CBD oil and edibles. Beyond that I don't know much....very interesting though.

Hey Vanessa-
I live in Colorado, so ALL of this stuff is available here but...is there some reason y'all can't buy CBD oil outside of Colorado (and Oregon, etc...)?? It's my understanding that it has no THC in it right?? You can buy it here everywhere (bought mine at a farmers market here, son's animal food shop sells it for dogs..). You have to go to licensed shops for edibles and such, but can buy CBD oil anywhere. I tried it all summer and didn't notice much with the CBD oil. Was just hoping for better sleep actually...

Hey Laine,

I think we have to obtain it from Head Shops here, but I think it is legal. I was looking into it when I was weaning off of a benzo but all the info seemed to rattle my brain and at that time I was very scared to put anything in my mouth that I wasn't sure about. I know that in my uncle's case, he requires some of the THC properties, so he is high some of the time. He also takes a risk when traveling back from getting his supply!

On the benzo buddies forum, people had luck with a consultant named Ezra...I know, how perfect is that. He knew his stuff apparently and people had a lot of luck with just the CBD oil for their anxieties and sleep issues. Maybe you just need a different more potent CBD similar to Charlotte's Web? and magnesium of course (you know I had to say that to get your goat)
