Budesonide Question

Post by SamanthaB »

Thanks again for answering my questions in such a timely manner. You are all so thoughtful and caring....love this group!

I've been in a severe flare now for 2 weeks and the other day, after trying to avoid taking it, I caved in and took only 1 3mg budesonide pill. That's it....just 1. Now, 4 days later, I've not had a bowel movement at all. I'm worried because when I was on it last year as prescribed, I took the recommended 9mgs for 2 weeks and almost ended up with an impacted bowel. The dr at the time said to just take less but I was scared of the drug and went off completely. So now what? Do I just wait and see what happens and has anyone else ever experienced extreme sensitivity to this drug?

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Hi Samantha,

Yes, we have several members who are very sensitive to budesonide and cannot tolerate more than 3mg at a time. You may be even more sensitive than them.

Are you taking any magnesium? Constipation can be a sign of a chronic magnesium deficiency. Taking 400–600 mg of magnesium citrate and drinking plenty of water for a few days may help to relieve your problem.

Thanks. You've mentioned magnesium a few times now so I will make sure I start taking it. The constipation is always temporary. Then once I 'explode' and I'm back to watery d. Can't seem to figure it out.

If you are taking any narcotic pain killers, they could cause that type of problem.
