Went in for my 2 month checkup with the gastro doc today. Had been worried about how long I can stay on Entocort EC. He said so far the studies don't show any problems and I can stay on it forever as long as it works.. So far no negative reports about any problems with other organs with long term use.
I have not done as well on 2 pills a day as three and he had hoped I could get to one but he said whatever works is what I need to take. Will try alternating three pills one day and 2 the next. If that doesn't work he said I can go back to three a day. Thank heavens I have prescription insurance.. don't know what will happen when I hit 65 but will worry about that when I get there:)
I am having a lot of problems with gas and he said to try danactive.. will see if that helps...

Hey Grannyh,
Good to hear from you. I've been wondering how you are doing with Entocort and hoping it has given you relief. It was a med that worked really well for me with few side effects.
I took it for 6 months and weaned off very slow the last few months with no problems but also 'stumbled" into a GF diet when I started it and in my case, the diet took over after the meds were out of my system. No doubt, I'm controling my MC symptoms with diet now. It's amazing.
I think there are others here that have taken Entocort long term with good results. Just curious, are you watching your diet at all? Are you eating gluten products?
All my best, it's good to hear from you.
Love,
Joanna

I am not watching my diet much...
After the hurricane evacuation fiasco I realized I would never survive in a shelter environment on such a restricted diet.. assuming the diet would work.. which it really hadn't (in my case). I stuck to the diet through the evacuation and was fortunate that my daughter in law's parents "gave me" my own bathroom..LOL What worked best was eating as little as possible! That did slow down the number of mad dashes to the john but did nothing for consistency....
I love being out of diapers!

Grannyh,
I hope you never have to experience what you did during the Katrina evacuation. There are still so many folks homeless.
I understand what your saying about surviving in a shelter situation long term- I don't think many of us using diet to control our symptoms would make it long because most of the foods we can eat just wouldn't be on the menu.
Since we live in an a pretty active earthquake area and cold climate we have 5 totes packed with stuff to survive for a couple weeks in case of a bad disaster. Other than dried meat, fruits nuts and stuff (which we probably could survive on quite awhile) I have a 3 months supply of Entocort- just in case. It makes me feel a little better knowing its there if I need it.
Glad your out of diapers and enjoying life!
