Bad bugs

Post by ldubois7 »

Has anyone used this product or something similar?

http://complimed.com/dysbiorx.html

Just wondering how well it was tolerated.

Thanks!

Ingredients kind of remind me of Atrantil, which contains quebracho also. There was a study on that blend for people with IBS-C here, though it was done by the product's creators. Quebracho may inhibit methanogenesis, reduces hydrogen (so, less gas produced). The supplement is designed to help people with SIBO.

Caprylic acid may have an antifungal/antimicrobial effect; berberine also may be antimicrobial/antifungal and may have benefit with IBS symptoms such as pain, diarrhea, urgency; garlic - another antimicrobial, although many folks with digestive disorders have a hard time with it; uva ursi - apparently too much of this is implicated in causing diarrhea, but also is said to have a bacteriostatic effect.

I did not take Atrantil - after I took an organic acids test and realized I probably did not have SIBO I moved on from similar products. I have heard that product is fairly well-tolerated.

Berberine seems to be the most likely component to help typical IBS-D symptoms; the others seem like they would be helpful in overgrowth situations.

I have thought about trying berberine; to me that would be a starting point if I didn't feel like I had issues with bacterial overgrowth.

Edited to add - there are many natural substances that can interfere with medications via inhibition of CYP enzymes and berberine is one that I am aware of...so that is definitely something to be conscious of if other meds are in the picture.

Thanks for your comments.

I don't have SIBO, but I do have too much bad bacteria, according my recent testing.

I'll give it a try, and hope it's well tolerated!
