Princess Pitiful

Post by sunny »

Well, after beginning to recover from my strange flu-like symptoms, now I slowly have developed an itchy rash.... angry red skin with raised bumps....on my back near my waist line, on my left underarm, my leg going up from my ankle, and on my neck moving past my collar bone and then trailing down my heart surgery scar. Then it popped out on my right shin bone from my instep to mid-calf.
What's also wierd is they each developed sequentially and begin to fade away & stop itching and then return!

So ...I researched Shingles...& found no mention of multiple sites plus it's one-sided. The rash remains but the redness and/ or itchiness comes & goes.
I did find a reference to steroid withdrawal often including flu- like symptoms and occasionally a rash.

I'm not miserable exactly, but just plain weary of being sick for so many years....this feels like that proverbial straw that broke the camel's spirit....umm...back.

(When I tell my kids I'm Princess Pitiful they know I'm feeling a tad bit sorry for myself and therefore there's no need to rush over & help me...just a call to remind me I'm not alone when I'm facing a challenge or danger, which relates to my childhood trauma when I was alone & scared & didn't know what to do....)

Love, Princess Pitiful

Hi Sunny,

That sounds like symptoms from a high-histamine reaction. I get the same symptoms if I don't go out of my way to minimize my intake of high-histamine foods. It's usually worse when I get too hot and during pollen allergy season. Taking a hot shower can cause the bumps to start itching again. Once those bumps show up, sometimes they keep getting reinflamed, as you pointed out.

Taking an antihistamine helps, but it helps more to avoid or minimize high-histamine foods. It may help to take a Thorne Laboratories product called Methyl-Guard (or Methyl-Guard Plus). The active form of B-6 in this product helps to activate the diamine oxidase (DAO) enzyme that our body produces to get rid of excess histamine. If we run low on active B-6 or DAO, histamine can build up in our body, which can cause the rash and bumps you mentioned. But the active forms of B-12, B-9, and B-6 need to be taken together, in the proper balance, to work well. The Thorne Methyl-Guard Or Methyl-Guard Plus) has the right balance. This is the product I'm referring to:

https://www.thorne.com/products/dp/methyl-guard-reg

It's available on Amazon and other places:

https://www.amazon.com/Thorne-Research- ... 0012FJVA2/

Or in a stronger version (this is the one I use):

Love,

Tex

Tex, Thanx for the suggestions about this being a histamine related problem....that did cross my mind....
I started on this Methy-Guard that you recommended about 2 weeks ago when Gabes suggested it....I didn't get the Methyl-Guard Plus because I don't have the MTHFR gene....but perhaps that isn't that important.
I have been watchful of high Histamine foods after you alerted me to Salicylate foods....
I had run out of Allegra & perhaps that impacted this...my daughter just picked up a bottle for me so I can resume taking it.
I do wonder if this is related to finishing up the tapering of budesonide....so hoping when this is completely out of my body things will calm down.
Thanx again,
Sunny

Laine & Marcia...
Thanx so much for the long-distance hugs!
Laine , you are right that it helps to have someone care and understand....no one in my world truly understands my struggles with LC like the people on this board and that's so important.
Marcia....yup! I need some sunny days, for sure!
