Antibiotic for dental issue
What is the safest antibiotic for periodontal issues. Planning an appointment for next week and would to be educated to make a safe choice . The info from the members of this website has always been very helpful.
That's kind of like asking, "What's the safest poison". 
My doc recommended Bactrim, but I turned out to be allergic to it. So then I used Cipro, and it worked, but it has enough black box warnings to make your hair stand up. It's the safest antibiotic, MC-wise. But it's risky to use because of all the other side-effect risks associated with it. Z-pak is generally safe for many people, but I don't know if it will do for dental work. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. This is a tough dilemma for MC patients.

One report on Cipro....
My son-in-law has taken Cipro before with no problems, but the last time damaged his tendons and ligaments to the point where he could no longer work in his highly physical job. His doctor couldn't believe the damage done to his body even though Cipro has black box warnings.
They are involved in a FB group with others who have been damaged by Cipro...some to the point they are now in wheel chairs because their Achilles' tendon was completely shredded.....there is a large class action suit against Cipro....

Not that I'm an expert at antiobiotic usage but....I had rather extensive gum grafts done in July of 2014 (when my MC was under control...and only being gf/df/sf..) and I visited the site and also remember asking Tex about what antibiotic would be ok. Eventually we decided on Flagyl. All was well. Is that an option for you?? The periodontist was very understanding of my MC situation and my being leery of antiobiotics...thus coming here to check it out first..

I have issues with gum inflammation that happens regularly. This summer I was dx with lymes and was put on doxycycline. During that time I had no issues with my gums. It is said to be used for periodontal treatment.

After a visit to the dentist he said the tooth problem is due to bone loss. He gave me a mouth rinse Chlorhex .12 percent to try. He said he can pull the tooth and I won't need a antibiotic. So I'm trying it out and I know the tooth won't get better and eventually it will need to be pulled. I thought I would need periodontal work but lucked out this time.
