Butter question

Post by Marcia K »

Hello. I don't eat processed baked goods often, but I just purchased Wholesome Chow Organic Gluten Free Brownie Mix from Vitacost. I had a 20% off of foods so I thought I'd buy this to have on hand when I need to take dessert somewhere. Anyway, it calls for 1/2 c. butter, dairy or non-dairy. I don't use butter, so any suggestions on what to use as a replacement? Thanks for any suggestions and I'll be sure to let you know how it is once I try it!

Hi Marcia,

I've used coconut oil extra virgin (so it is flavorless) on things like this.

Perhaps also Earth Balance soy free.

I use something similar to earth balance soy free in my baking/cooking, have done so for 17 years

coconut oil is also a great option or doing a blend of both the coconut oil and earth balance

Enjoy!!

Thanks Brandy & Gabes! I wondered about coconut oil. I always have some on hand. I've never used Earth Balance but I think my grocery store carries it. I'm eager to make the brownies but I'm going to hold off until I have to take them somewhere. We'll see if I have the willpower!

Marcia
with things like the brownies, I freeze them in portion size!
they defrost well. you can warm them slightly and have them with coconut icecream!

That's a great idea, Gabes otherwise I know I'll eat too many at once! I like coconut ice cream, too!
