Blood test: white blood cell count (WBC)

Post by henrym »

Hi everyone! :pigtail:

It has been a while since I have posted. A lot of things happened this year.. I got married last april and moved to China 2 weeks ago! :weirdnana:

So I had to undergo a medical exam in China to get a residence permit. I just got the test results and surprise surprise.. 'No disease which is highly dangerous to the public health has been found." So I will probably be accepted.
Looking at my blood test results though I am not all happy. Somehow my blood tests always shows a low WBC. In my case this time it was 3.0 (3.97-9.15 normal range). It has been low ever since I have done blood tests after being diagnosed with LC. Years ago it was even lower, around 2.2. Also my Neutrophils and Lymphocytes count is always too low (and Monocytes too high).

My GI could never give me a reason why my WBC is too low. I am wondering if this is simply related to the LC or that something else is causing this. Are there more people here that have the same low WBC figures? Hope to get some insight into this.

Another thing I would like to mention is that I have started to use LDN since May this year. It helped me greatly and almost instantly by curing my gastritis. It hasn't worked wonders for LC yet. But I am continuing it for now.

Btw. Love my new home in Shanghai! Of course the LC flared up almost immediately after moving here but I will get it under control again :barbell:

Love from China!

Hello Henry,

Congratulations! You have indeed been busy.

Low WBC results are somewhat common with autoimmune diseases. The lymphocytes that cause the inflammation in the mucosa of the colon (during an MC flare) are white cells. Sometimes more of them move from the blood into the inflamed tissue, leaving the count in the blood low.

Glad you're enjoying your new home.

Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks Tex!

I suspected the low WBC results were related to the LC. Its just that my GI didn't see a relation between the two..

Liefs,
Henry
