WD 25 times a day to severe C
I have spent all morning reading everything I can in here on the different types of magnesium and how they are absorbed by the body. Gabes has a great summary on this topic. But sadly I remain confused.
So I went from WD 25 times a day to severe C. I started the budesonide 3 days ago and now I can't 'go' at all. I am on 2 budesonide a day. Too much for me at this low weight. Will do only 1 tomorrow and maybe go to every other day. Which is the direction I want to go as I am not interested in using drugs.
So can someone advise me on which magnesium to take. I am using the Calm powder that I have on hand. I have increased my dose of MCT oil ( which by the way my New GI doctor put me on a month ago on the 1st visit to her) I have increased my water intake. My food intake is down to air... I follow the G,S,DF, Egg free diet. I have gastroparesis and have to eat very very carefully. I only can consume about 200 - 400 calories a day... THUS a feeding tube has to go in. My entire GI tract is not working. It used to be just my gut but now it is everything. All GI tests show abnormal motility everywhere and I would welcome the WD back at this point.
I can't do any fiber ( gastroparesis) I don't know what my mag levels are, but they must be low as I am having severe C now.
I can't swallow pills, so is there is better magnesium than the Calm ? I am looking at ReMag Pico-Ionic Liquid Magnesium ??
I have to try to get balanced ASAP- I am having that dreadful feeding tube put in next Friday. ( which I am so not seeing that working as it is a J tube) This MC is the cause of all the feeding tube nonsense .....
anyway I have to poop NOW.... lol Sadly I know there is no quick fix for this.
Thanks for your insights and sharing information on the different magnesium's and which one might best suit my issues. I am grateful that there are so many people experienced with all these supplements- as this could save me some suffering.
Hugs

Hi Rebecca,
I've been wondering how you were. I am a huge fan of ReMag and use 2 teaspoons daily. You have to start slow with it. but in my unprofessional opinion it is perfect for you. RnAreset.com (Dr. Deans website) has wonderful customer service that will answer your questions. It comes with instructions on how to start low and slow. Follow them. It took me six months to get to 2 teaspoons (600 mg) and in your delicate state it could make things shift.
Most people here can't stand the taste of it, but I bet you are like I was. Taste Buds? Appetite? what are those? Anyway, I could go on, but I take nearly everything on her site she offers and have normans now....I'm a big fan. In the meantime get a good mag lotion, oil, or epsom salts foot soaks/baths and get it on you! Keep taking your calm (which Dr. Dean recommends for constipation) and start slathering the stuff on throughout the day....

Hi Rebecca,
I'm not sure I understand your question. I'm not sure whether you want to built up the amount in your cells, or use magnesium as a laxative.
If raising your magnesium absorption rate is your goal, then Vanessa's response covers that pretty well. If you want to use it as a laxative, then magnesium oxide is a good choice, because we can absorb only about 2 % of the elemental magnesium is magnesium oxide. The other 98 % stays in our gut and acts as a laxative. The liquid form of magnesium oxide is known as Milk of Magnesia, which is an old commercial laxative product.
If you want to do both, magnesium citrate would be a good choice because we absorb it pretty well, and in larger doses, it acts as a laxative. A liquid version is available to use as a laxative. I believe it's about half magnesium, half salt.

Hello Vanessa, so great to hear from you ! Ok great info on ReMag , I will order it today ! You are a smart cookie, taste buds ... Nope don't remember those, I won't mind the taste at all ! I will keep doing the epsom foot baths too.
So now I have a ton of Calm in me, tons of mag oil on me, I drank lots of water and doubled up on my MCT oil. But I am still having C - but I am back to hearing all that racket & have the cramps going. My intestines were quiet till I did all of the above.
This is crazy mixed up.
Tex thank you for covering both bases. I am looking for increasing my mag levels - I figured if I increased my mag levels it would prevent C ... maybe I am wrong about that ?
Now to address my current problem of C with cramps and noise..... I appreciate knowing that M of M is ok to take- thank you for being specific about that. My husband thought it was ok for me to take that but I wasn't sure.
This situation I am in is so crazy, All this noise going on with cramping, wow I had massive noise going on the first round with MC, this time my husband can hear it across the room. I was on the phone with a friend last night and she could hear it. It's much louder than the first time I had a flare. - of course I am a lighter weight so maybe that is why it is so loud.
Also when this noise was going on with that 1st flare I would have WD and feel such relief, now I have all that noise and cramps but no D ( just C) and it's baffling to me.
I guess I will do the M of M so I can get some relief.
Appreciate your help !
Hugs,
rebecca

long story short (wanted to answer quickly before going to bed)
- you cant fix magnesium deficiency overnight, it takes weeks if not months... (took me 6 months to fix mine)
- in your case with medical history, feeding tubes and the like, your ability to absorb magnesium via the gut would be reduced.
- in the short term use the Mof M to get relief and keep up with topical magnesium - aim to get 400-600mg elemental magnesium per day topically.

You're the best Gabes, I can't seem to stay grounded unless you come in and tell me how it is...lol
Thank You !
So today is day 3 with no poop, still lots of cramps and noise. I took M of M and it did nothing, which is very shocking, that stuff always works for me.
Well long story short ( I know rare for me...tee hee) I had to use a fleet enema. I couldn't take the pain, it helped only a little- it just can't go up high enough.
I only took one of those endocort's this morning , I was taking 2 every day, that is just too much for me. I am hoping tomorrow I can go. I will do more M of M tonight.
So there's my update.
Gabes Thank You for helping me stay focused and reminding me to be patient. Also I found your sharing that it took you 6 months to get that magnesium deficiency fixed extremely helpful.
Hugs !

You poor thing.... my heart breaks for you hearing all the challenges you are facing. But your will and your thirst for knowledge are wonderful so you WILL GET BETTER - I have no doubt!
Sorry to slightly sidetrack this convo but Tex mentioned that the "Calm" powder is the one to take if you want a laxative affect? I've been using a packet a day and haven't noticed that - maybe I'd have "C" if I wasn't using it. And since the Natural Calm isn't discussed here much, am I wasting my money and efforts taking that form? For me it is the most convenient because I add a half packet to my huge water bottle for the first half of the day and the rest of the packet in my big water bottle for the second half of the day. That way I know I'm getting a small amount consistently throughout the day. Would I be better off putting in a drop or two of the Remag (and find something to flavor the water to kill the taste?

Diagnosed November 2004, Used Asacol and Lialda, sometimes worked, sometimes made it worse. Entocort always works but hate it. Remission only lasts 3-6 months and then back on Entocort. Enterolab test July 2017, now gluten free. Time will tell!

No, that's not exactly what I said (not what I meant, anyway. LOL). Calm uses magnesium citrate which is well-absorbed. It's absorbed almost as well as magnesium glycinate. It can be used for laxative effect, but usually that's only with larger doses.Sue wrote:Sorry to slightly sidetrack this convo but Tex mentioned that the "Calm" powder is the one to take if you want a laxative affect?
The bottom line is, magnesium citrate is a good source of magnesium, when taken in moderation.

Thanks so much Sue for your kind words. I like the Calm powder, and it actually does calm me. I have taken massive doses of it and it doesn't touch my C, but neither does the M of M.
I am on a water diet now and only taking 1 endocort. I had some movement today but very tiny. My kit came from Entolabs, OMG 1 cup they want. I hope to be able to make that happen tomorrow. I need to send this back before my surgery on Friday ( having a feeding tube put in ) Other wise it will be a week before I can get off to them.
Interestingly ; Edit to include both B's I increased... I upped my Vitamin B2 & Methylcobalamin form of B12 and my gut feels a lot better. I noticed my hands were numb and my tongue was burning and I thought my Bs maybe low. I really think this helped me feel less cramping.
.....of course all the stress I am under due to my gastroparsis and this feeding tube is a major factor in what is going on with my MC.
The blood work they did yesterday for the Friday surgery showed a lot of inflammation and I know some of this is stress related.
I will get through this. I will be able to blend all my own safe foods and hopefully be in a better place.
I am trying to decompress and look at this as a way for me to keep living and stop putting so much thought into the horrors of it. I 'll get there... I am almost there.. We will see how I am on Friday with that thinking....lol The surgery is 3 hours and I hope I am strong enough to get through that.
Thanks Guys !

So this Friday is your feeding tube surgery...3 hours worth! I can't imagine...I had no idea it was that long a procedure!
No words of wisdom , but words of comfort....hoping you can find some peace as you wait for Friday plus relief from the big C! It ain't fair!
I'll be keeping you in my heart on Friday, Rebecca...
Hugs,

Sorry! For some reason I thought the Natural Calm was magnesium oxide, not citrate. I'll keep taking my packet a day. Thanks!tex wrote:No, that's not exactly what I said (not what I meant, anyway. Please keep us posted on how you're doing, and good luck filling that hat. I wonder if that's where the term "go shi* in your hat" came from!
When I saw the container from Enterolab I, too, thought, no way, this whole thing is disgusting enough, but you want me to fill it, freeze it, add more, re-freeze, etc. GROSS! But luckily for me I had the big "D" and was able to fill it no problem. Then in the freezer for 24 hours and off to the Fed Ex box.
Stop stressing over getting it done before Friday.... you have enough on your plate (sorry, bad analogy) to deal with - if the Enterolab testing has to wait a while, so be it. Everything happens the way it's supposed to.... embrace that, accept that, and know that it's all going to be fine. I still catch myself wondering "why" a lot but the best thing I can do for myself is "accept" and keep trying. You've got this!

Awww thank you Sunny ! I know what a long procedure, they called today to go over it all with me and I was very surprised how long it will take. ... I just hope they can even find my stomach... poor thing hasn't been used much, probably the size of a dime...lol
I sure agree it ain't fair... darn it- boy anyone who makes light of MC just doesn't get it. This MC is harder than any of my other health issues.
But you know I have a great life, I am so happy and never depressed. I am busy with my orchids , animals, husband and friends that have never given up on me, my phone rings all day long. (I can only take 2 calls a day as they wipe me out.) I love reading and playing on the internet. I have my beautiful birds I watch in my yard. So life is good for me. The only thing besides eating I would like to have back are my long hikes in the forest. I believe I will get back to hiking as my energy returns.
It is all good !!
I have 25 orchids, I am always re-potting them, talking & singing to them. They bring me such joy ! Here are 3 of them...

Ha Ha , you're a total riot Sue.... I know filling that hat isn't going to be easy! Plus that whole freezing it makes it hard to get it in the mail Mon, Tues, Or Wed.
You're on a roll girl " you have enough on your plate" That was awesome !!
Thank You so much for making me laugh and reminding me to let it unfold as it is will.

Rebecca, I've been enjoying orchids too but not nearly to your extent. If they survive and rebloom I'm happy. Some have gone on for years! I love them. I just want you to know I'm praying for you, your surgery and all you're dealing with. You're really a remarkable woman and I wish you the very best. Deb
