Has anyone else had a reaction after a colonoscopy? I'm not talking about GI issues but a runny nose (like a faucet) and itchy eyes?
I have my colonoscopy/endocscopy on Monday and am beginning to dread the whole process. I'm on the three year plan due to pre cancerous polyps every time I've had one and this is my forth time. It's miserable but the thought of having the nose/eye issues has me a bit uptight. I looked back at my calendar from 2014 and noted it lasted the whole week after the procedure. If I remember correctly, I was told it could have been caused by the O2. I'm wondering if it was the Benadryl they administer in the IV instead.
I'd like to avoid the same reaction if possible. I remember shoving Kleenex up both nostrils because the dripping was so bad. It didn't take long before the tissue was soaked through. Obviously, that wouldn't be an option at work unless I wanted to look like a crazy idiot.
I have always been extremely sensitive to the sedation. I always make my appointment to be the first of the day and I end up sleeping the entire day and lucky to wake up by seven in the evening.
My D has been waking me up at night all week. Getting up at 2:30-3am is tough. I can never get back to sleep since my alarm goes off at 4am. All I do is toss around knowing I only have an hour of sleep. I told my husband to be sure he has a prescription in hand or we don't leave. So far, everything I've tried from the GI had no effect or made things worse. I'm not thrilled about the Rifaximin but simply have no clue how to combat a bacterial overload. Hopefully it will be an option. We will see if I still have the CC dx. It really doesn't matter though.... nothing diet-wise will change.

Deb-
I have nothing to offer as I didn't have this reaction with my colonoscopy of sigmoidoscopy. I wish you luck and some sort of answer to all this. I go to GI doc next week and am due for a colonscopy that I put off in February.

anesthetic will trigger histamine/mast cell reactions
anesthetic also interupts methylation cycle, depletes magnesium and B's.
full anesthetic can have soy in the 'gas'
epsom salt foot soak, drink lots of water

I pushed mine off o few months since summer was so busy. I'd like to skip it but I know that would be a poor choice. I'm hoping this time there are no polyps.
Thanks Gabes- so there is really nothing I can do....
I thought about asking them to skip to Benadryl but that could actually be a good thing.

Deb - Dr Davis (Wheat Belly, Undoctored) has a sibo protocol. You can read about it here: https://blog.undoctored.com/small-intes ... ndoctored/. I have no experience with it but apparently some people have had great success.
