MC and really bad nasal allergies

Post by laurie1010 »

I was wondering if there is any connection between MC and bad allergies. I recently had labs done where an IGE of 440 was found. Dr. proceeded with allergy test which came back with lots of things which I am allergic to, only shellfish on the food list the rest environmental allergies : dust, pollen, trees, cats, etc. I do seem to have terrible thick post nasal drip which I can be heard trying to clear from the back of my throat quite often. Was just wondering if there was some type of a connection.
Thanks so much!

Hi Lauri,

Untill I found out which food I could and could not tolerate I often had mucus in my throat (I'm not sure if thats what you mean; sorry that is my language problem). This goes very often together with burning eyes and ostheoartritisproblems, but sometimes it's alone my throat. I had this with dairy, tomatoes, aubergines, cashews, pistachio's, salami, wine and other foods.
The auto imuum paleo protocol (and of course this forum) helped me to discover my intolerances.
Success!

Laurie,

Yes, there is definitely a connection. It's part of our histamine issues. I no longer get hay fever from ragweed pollen after taking B-6 for a few years, but like Sonja, now I get throat congestion when ragweed season comes along.

I have ordered the magnesium and Vitamin D waiting for it to come from amazon. What do you recommend to take with b12 deficiency in the past and the allergies? I know certain vitamins may irritate our gut. Should I also take B6? Separate from the B12 or together with it? Are all of these ok to take in stage 1 or should I wait until out of stage 1? Sorry for all the questions this is a lot for me to comprehend. Also I read on the facebook site something very interesting about MTHFR and this diagnosis. This is very interesting to me as I know for a fact I have a homozygous copy of I believe it was the one that starts with an A. The reason I know this is after being tested after 2 miscarriages. The only Dr. that thought it was a big deal was my ob/gyn who said they didn't care what research showed they have seen many stillbirths if the mom's have this and do not take a blood thinner. So for my second pregnancy I was given lovenox to help with clotting issues caused from the MTHFR. Most other Doctors don't seem to even know what it is or tell me it's irrelevant. Thank you so much for all of your help!

Oh and they also gave me extra vitamins due to the way my body would not process them correctly.

If you have methylation issues (like many of us) you need to take the active form of vitamins in order for you to be able to utilize them, because your body may not be able to convert the inactive forms properly. If you are going to take B-6, IMO you need to take a balanced combination of the active forms of vitamins B12, B-9, and B-6, such as Methyl-Guard by Thorne Laboratories, of Methyl-Guard Plus (which is about twice as potent). I've been taking it (or a prescription version of it) for about 8 years now and symptoms from pollen allergies have pretty much faded away. Yes, most docs have no training for dealing with methylation issues (even though about half the general population has some form of MTHFR gene mutation) so they don't understand these issues at all.
