It's safe to take an H2 blocker whenever it's needed, but it's never safe to take a PPI, in my opinion.

Tex,
I hate taking the PPI. I had tried everything else, with no luck. When I tried to wean off it, my heartburn came back - not worse than before, just the same. I had the GERD before I was dx with MC. I also had other possible triggers for MC. I would love to know what triggered it. Probably a combination?
I understand docs are worried about possible esophageal damage. I had the endoscopy and it showed no damage. So now, I'll try ranitidine again and hope it helps.

I got off daily high doses rantitdine once i fixed magnesium deficiency...
as we have discussed earlier in this thread, your calcium supplementation has depleted magnesium levels.
my suggestion is, focus on having a few good weeks of high dose magnesium, with regular Vit D3 supplementation THEN migrate off the PPI.

The Augmentin will probably cause diarrhea, so you may not be able to improve until you're through with it.

Tex,
I know the risks of Augmentin and wish there was another way.
So far, no D. Yay! But I've only been on it for a day. Thanks again for your help!
Btw, I read a little about your stroke and am so sorry you had to go through that ordeal.
I know you take good care of yourself and hope that will be the only one.

Hi Alice,
I believe it is OK to take both Prilosec and Zantac at the same time. But I would recommend tapering the Prilosec and then adding the Zantac before you get symptomatic if you can.
Good luck with the antibiotic.

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Alice,
Thanks. I suppose I'll always be kind of clumsy because of the stroke, but at least I've managed to recover most of the coordination and strength that I lost because of it.

This is a bewildering disease we have!
Even after 27 years of experience and study, I can’t make sense of it. After about one month of unexplained D alternating with C, I had to take antibiotics know to cause D for 8 days. Not a sign of D and I’m done with the antibiotics.
No C either. I don’t get it!
