lyme and MC
Hi all,
I know there are some members with lyme disease and I wonder if there is a link between MC and lyme.
I had lyme disease two years ago and I had antibiotics. After that the doctors didn't know if it was really gone, because I had joint problems (that was when my ostheoarthritis started). I was tested again one year ago and there was a negative (IGM) and a dubious result (IGG). They said the lyme was gone and the imuum respons had dropped away. Very often antibodies stay in the blood, also when the disease is gone, but that was not the case. That was positive, because that made it possible to detect a new infection by borelia.
This year a had a few tics and one was to long in my skin. So I tested again and today I heard from the assistent of my doctor the result is positive. IGM is positive, what indicates a new infection and IGG (what indicates an old infection) is dubious (again), so I understood.
My doctor will call me tomorrow.
I wonder if it is only bad luck that I have twice in two year a lyme infection or is this an old infection and has this something to do with my MC?
I understand this is a difficult question, but I would appreciate it to hear your experiences and thoughts about this subject.

Hi Sonja,
I'm very sorry to hear that you are going to have to deal with Lyme disease again. As far as I know, it's not associated with MC, but there's a lot that we don't understand about Lyme disease and there's a lot that we don't understand about MC. It's possible that MC "distracts" the immune system, making it easier to get reinfected by the Borelia bacterium.
I hope your recovery goes smoothly.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi, Sonja. I have nothing to help you out, but I'm sorry about the Lyme. I live in PA which is a high tick state. I used to love going to the mountains but now I live in fear of ticks and Lyme Disease. I hope you are able to recover soon.

Thank you Marcia. Where I got the ticks is also a high risk area, near Amsterdam, where I live. I have a little cottage at the coast in the dunes. Every year we have ticks, but if you remove them within 48 hours nothing happens. Sometimes I miss one and it is really bad luck when this tick is an infected one. And when it is infected, it is also possible not to get lyme disease.
I spoke to my doctor yesterday and my situation is too complex for him. He is going to contact the professor in the hospital here for advice. He is an expert in lyme disease.

something that you may want to do some research on before you meet with the professor etc.
things like Cholestryamine are used for biotoxin/mycotoxin treatment for things like Borellia (lyme) etc. there are also natural approaches to this such as Diatomaceous Earth, Betonite Clay, Activated Charcoal, Coconut oil and herbal approaches that work well.
(and we have discussed this on the forum before)
There is good info in Lyme support groups about this.
Some links to previous discussions with links etc that will help you prepare:-

Hi Gabes,
Thank you for your answer and the links. Two years ago I did a lot of research and ' the more you know, the more complex it becomes'. Very much is still unclear about lyme disease.
Yesterday I read (a bit) the protocol for treating lyme and there I found that it is also possible to have a false positive test in case of an auto imuum disease. I think that the problems I have with my joints, muscles and (recently) inter verbal disc are caused by my MC, but they also fit perfectly the symptoms of lyme. Everything can be a symptom of lyme!
I trust my doctor: he is a homeopathic, anthroposofic doctor and always chooses the natural way if possible. And the professor in the academic hospital here in Amsterdam (AMC) is really an international expert. So I'm curious for their answer.
My diet and lifestyle are adjusted to my MC! So far so good!

Hi all,
My doctor discussed my situation with the lyme experts in the academic hospital and they concluded that I have a new infection of Lyme. I'm on an antibiotic (doxycline) since monday for three weeks. That goes rather well. I take probiotics now and discontinued magnesium, because that weakens the working of the doxy.
If I should get more information about the combination of Lc and Lyme, for example that LC distracts the imuumsystem, like Tex suggested and what sounds reasonable to me, I will inform you about that, but I doubt if they can say something about this subject.

yes it is, and sadly mainstream medicine in some countries are struggling to accept its existance and impact on health.
the australian medical system is not acknowledging it, and practitioners/doctors that treat 'lyme' are being de licenced etc.
chronically ill patients are travelling to europe for treatment.

Gabes,
As I'm writing I'm picking them off my dog, after our walk on the road, not even in the woods! We can't go into our woods in the spring or fall anymore!
Do you know how it has spread around the globe?
It originated in Connecticut in the US, I believe...I feel embarrassed that I didn't know it is a global problem.
My husband has had it a few times....it's horrible.

Linda, I didn't realize that it's a global problem, either. I believe it originated in the States in Lyme, CT. I read that the government was experimenting with animals and then killed them off but they didn't take into account that birds would carry the infected ticks with them. I don't know if that's true, but I read it somewhere. Like you, I avoid the woods which makes me sad that it has come to this.

we have always had Ticks in Aus, and they can be harmful to dogs etc.
only in the last 5-10 years or so has chronic illness been linked to ticks in Australia.
my thoughts on this is that modern day living (high toxins) and the increase in key nutrient deficiences, 15 years ago our bodies could fight tick based bacteria/parasite. now it is too much for our fragile immune systems and people get way sick away quicker.
