Hi from another old newbie :)

Post by artteacher »

I have been away for a long time, but I'm back and glad to hear familiar voices and so many new ones! I'm glad to see so much new information, and I'll be reading and reading.....
Backstory: My first diagnosis of MC was in about 2003, but subsequent colonoscopies showed no evidence of it, despite many symptoms. In a weird way, it was nice to finally get a MD-confirmed diagnosis of lymphocytic colitis when I went to a new doctor earlier this year. I have been df and gf (and lots of other avoidances) for 10+ years, but the disease has worsened nonetheless. I am now on a second round of Entocort EC, and have a sympathetic gastroenterologist.
Thank you so much for being here. I appreciate you all VERY much.

Welcome back to you, too...wish we didn’t have to worry about all this, but as so many have said, this could be a lot worse.

Hi Marsha,

Nice to see a new post from you, but I'm sorry to hear that your symptoms are worse again. It seems that some things in life change, but some things (such as MC) stay the same.

Anyway, welcome back!

I was diagnosed in July and began a strict elimination diet 30 days ago. It's gotten to be torturous, quite frankly. 10 days ago, I felt better and a slightly firmer stool. Last 5 days, diarrhea and stomach pain again (thought NOT as harsh as when I first began this diet).

I'm discouraged in that I'm finding it really hard to live, play and eat like this - with no caffeine and no alcohol.

One thing I think I might do is eliminate the vitamins, as they likely have gluten and/or soy in them. However, with malabsorption being a possible question in all of this, I hate to do that ...

Sigh.

2 Xs a week acupuncture and Chinese herbs (with a nutritionist/Chinese herb specialist/acupunturist) has brought considerable relief, but thats a $700 a month expense (on top of an $830 a mo. health care premium). This Cadillac treatment is an impossible financial burden beyond the 2 months I've paid for.

Rice helps curb the diarrhea, so I made some today ...

But I really want a cup of black tea ... I really want a cup of coffee.

Yes, I'm in whine mode.

It's been a very difficult couple of months and came out of the blue.

Thanks,

Cathie

Cathie,

Are you sure you can't have coffee or black tea? Most of us are able to drink them both without significant problems. Just be very careful about what you put in them.

HI Cat,

Be sure to drink one or the other for a few days to test if one may be the culprit or not.....a bad batch of coffee or tea grounds can harbor a bit of mold so who knows what your body is reacting to at this time....keep up with the elimination diet....you'll find your safe foods soon ;-)

Hi Marsha,

Oh dear to have a flare after so much time, I feel for you. I've been dealing with MC since 2007....but didn't find this forum until just a couple years ago when I started researching information really hard.

If anyone can get us back on our feet it is this place...I absolutely love the people here :pulsinghearts:

If I want my intestines to act up I drink black tea, diet soda, or have chocolate. (Anything with caffeine or artificial sweeteners). The safest thing for me is a DF, GF, low fiber, low caffeine, grain free, low sulfite, no garlic diet. Artificial sweeteners and some artificial colors are high sulfite, & can irritate bladder lining as well as intestines.
Wish me luck, I'm doing a one month check with my Dr after being on entocort ec.
